tried watching 12 Monkeys, no such luck. i'm almost tempted to start Scanners, another film i've yet to see, but don't want to watch 10 minutes of it and then stop again. frustrating. maybe i should just call it day
Go outside and exercise for an hour. Then sitting still is easy.

I love horror as well, but generally don't pay any attention to that genre because, just as bearcat said, they're generally bad. But I love a well done horror flick. In the 31 days of Horror thread for Halloween last year, a lot people recommend The Thing so I rented that and I loved it! I'm always on the lookout for horror films that are on par with that one, or at least are pretty good
I watched the film when it first came out, when I was in my teens, and the hype and promotion of the film being real was still out there (I remember vividly the trailer, as well).

Since time has passed, I'm not exactly sure how the film will appear to someone who hasn't seen it. Obviously we know it's a film and not real, but I still think it's extremely effective--it is even for myself after 5 viewings. People criticize it very often, and to be honest I can understand why. There's no doubt it's polarizing, in that many ppl prefer the generic horror films with graphic violence and actually seeing the bad guy.

Surfdude and I always use our favorite Hitchcock quote, about a bomb being under the table. I used it recently in regards to Blair Witch on this site and was heavily criticized by a member, whom I believe misinterpreted the meaning of the quote (Ebert himself uses it for the film).

I've always thought that our imagination is able to create much scarier images than the ones we actually see. There's a reason why many children are afraid of the dark--you imagine something terrible. This film really plays with that idea. I think it's rather genius and I 100% believe the concluding scene is the scariest of any horror film I've ever seen, and that the concluding image and what it means (which the person who criticized me about the Hitchcock quote completely missed) is absolutely chilling.

I will def be picking the film up, as I've only ever owned it on vhs. I know that it won't be a great looking film and will prob only get a 3 for PQ (which is unfair bc it's how it's supposed to look), but I would love to have it in my collection.

Loved it, even on first shot. Vague is fine.

"Unfinished" is weak.

Also, there are times when I sit in front of my blu-ray collection wanting to watch something, but can't bring myself to pick anything I really feel like watching.
I honestly can't remember the last time I didn't finish a movie. There have been times, like with Triangle, where I watched half of it but then went out and when I got home finished it. For me, I can't make a judgment call on a film if I haven't seen the whole thing.

I know you're also referring to movies you've seen before, but even then I can't remember not finishing one!

Nice! We seem to have similar taste, so I think you'll like it. Even if you don't, you've shown that you have the ability to still respect films that you may not have loved, so I think that's good.

Sorry.
Def a complaint I can understand. For me, this is a film that I very easily can understand the complaints for (with the exception of there not being enough violence--I think that's not a great argument, although I guess some ppl really look for that in horror films).

So, while I love it I can absolutely understand the ppl that detest it. This is one of the prime examples of a polarizing film, along with 2001 and some others. There really is no middle ground.

And I understand why people liked it.

I too prefer horror that shows us very little. Cloverfield got that right in a traditional old-school way. Dont show the beast until the very end. Make me wait for it.

Or, like the Orphanage, there IS NO beast.

The Blair Witch project was doing everything right for me. It was just the performances and the plot hole of
[Show spoiler](just walk in one direction and you'll get out)
that bothered me.

understand completely.
my biggest complaint is how Heather always thinks she's right and knows where they're going. and Mike and Josh always saying,
[Show spoiler]"Heather, we're in the middle of the f****** woods, man! that map ain't doing sh!t!"
Heather's attitude and obviously wrong persistence always makes me kinda

but i still love it to death!

30 Days Of Night...just finished watching this and I'm not sure why it took me so long. it was a surprisingly decent vampire flick that was actually quite brutal. I think the vamps were almost zombielike intheir brutality with the way they attacked their prey. Good FX and some nice creepy moments.

I liked that they werent so much drinkers per se, as they were neck eaters.

Splice i would give it a 6.5/10

[Show spoiler]Splice had some interesting ideas such as how bad it can get when you cross a human with some kind of animal that can fly, swim, and switch sexes. Also the Dren sex scenes were strange i guess adrien Brodys character wasnt getting enough from Sarah Pollacks character...LOl

It wasn't vague--pretty straight-forward, I'm sure you understood it just fine, although maybe it didn't affect you like it did me.

Earlier in the film,
[Show spoiler]it is said that when the Blair Witch kills someone, she has the other victim stand in the corner. At the end of the film, one of the characters is standing in the corner. This means that the Blair Witch is killing one of the three, one is in the corner bc he/she is next, and then the person who drops the camera is grabbed by the Blair Witch.

The person I debated this with didn't remember what
[Show spoiler]standing in the corner meant and thought that the person was just taking a piss! Talk about missing a major plot point!

I agree that Cloverfield and The Orphanage got it just right.

What do you mean by plot hole? How is that a plot hole? Isn't it just stupidity? The performances didn't bother me, because while they whined a lot I'm sure most of us would've done the same if we were in that position. But, I can def understand getting annoyed at them, for sure.

that guy did that too (unless that's what you meant and i am too dense to understand simple writing haha), when one of the towns people says the guy came down
[Show spoiler]and said, "i'm all finished now" and then in court he said he made them stand facing the wall "because he couldn't stand to feel the eyes on him"
talk about disturbing mental imagery!

I really enjoyed the acting of Ed Harris, and Viggo Mortensen. They together really carried this story. Once again good movie, very different and well acted. But honestly the music for the movie could've been chosen better but that about the only thing i didnt like.

this is an overlooked, very well made film. I really enjoyed it and gave it
4 out of 5 stars
