You and me both. Strange I haven't gotten to it considering how many dozens of times I've seen his other three films.

I think i was too harsh on the Predators movie, I was looking for the wrong thing in this movie, ill give it a 8/10.

The problem is a just viewed Shutter Island so it raised my standard but ill just have to leave that movie in a class of its own.

Last night I finally got around to watching Memento. That movie was incredible! I've always loved Nolan's films, just never got around to seeing this one, and I'm really sad it took me this long to see it . It was really interesting, and very cool. It's so different, and just goes to show that Nolan is still one of, if not the greatest Director in Hollywood, at least in my opinion. Guy Pearce was excellent as Leonard, and it may be one of his best performances. Joe Pantoliano and Carrie-Anne Moss were both good in their supporting roles as well.
[Show spoiler] I really liked the idea of the whole movie being told backwards. It was really interesting to me. I can honestly say I think that alone makes it one of my top 10 movies, just for innovation alone. I've heard there's a fan edit you can watch the movie in the right order of events, and I'm curious to watch it, but I feel like it will take away from it.
Love this movie, one of the best I've seen. I'm even more excited for Inception then I was before! In Nolan we trust!

10/10

Appaloosa

Movie 7/10

I enjoyed this movie allot, very different from you typical western
[Show spoiler]Being that a woman was the major objective in the movie
I really enjoyed the acting of Ed Harris, and Viggo Mortensen. They together really carried this story. Once again good movie, very different and well acted. But honestly the music for the movie could've been chosen better but that about the only thing i didnt like.

Summer Hours - 3/5

For me, this was fairly boring. It was well done and the cast was great, but I really didn't care about the story or the characters much. I ended up falling asleep towards the end and I caught the last 5 minutes or so.

I rank it among the top 10 worst films I've ever seen. With that cast, there's no excuse. The dialogue is some of the worst I've seen in recent film, with an example being "she chew her food real good." Enough said.

You know I love it

I felt very differently than you, in that the story and the characters intrigued me. I don't attribute it to recently having been in Paris or the Musee D'Orsay, but rather to my belief that the theme of what to do with relics passed down was interesting and thought provoking. I don't fault you for not liking it and I can see how it would not interest others the way it did me, as many Criterion films are like that--some I like and others don't, and some others like but I don't. It happens.

Default Kneel before Zod!!!

Superman II,” Richard Donner’s Cut on DVD.

I’ve always liked this one, perhaps better than the first film, for its rampant action and mass destruction, and for the direction of the characters.

But holy crap, they changed so much in this cut, it’s a whole new movie!

Cuts like these interest me a lot; the added/altered effects, re-edited scenes, and new scenes really challenged my memory; I had to pop in the theatrical cut and make a quick comparison. In general, I like the new cut; it really trims the fat off of the story and gets straight to the point. In a way, it’s a little more entertaining this way. There’s also a huge number of artistic choices that probably enhance the film overall; I really admire:
  • Whole new beginning; an extended prologue and recap, followed by an awesome opening credits sequence.
  • Lois figuring out Superman’s secret identity all on her own, very early in the film in fact, good for her! This added scene is pretty decently-done, and replaces a lot of scenes that were in the theatrical cut.
  • Replacing all of the scenes in the Fortress of Solitude. The fortress itself looks slicker. And they brought back Marlon Brando, yay!!
  • Going hand-in-hand with that, they showed more about how Superman got his groove back; the whole father and son theme is a great improvement.
  • I think they added in more fighting in Metropolis.
  • Once again,
[Show spoiler]they employed the great time-reversing technique. WTF?!! This time around, I think it looks really slick, perhaps better than in the first film, and it’s a more effective way of having Lois forget about Superman’s secret identity. I’m just not sure if it really fits with the story
    .
  • And finally,
[Show spoiler]Superman destroys the Fortress of Solitude. A bit of a wild turn of events, but it effectively shows how he moves on
    .
The only bad things about these changes are that a number of scenes were omitted; I was really sad to see all of these parts removed:
  • Zod’s initial crime.
  • The whole subplot in Paris; I always thought it was cool.
  • Superman returning to Clark Kent after saving the kid from Niagra Falls.
  • Lois falling into the river.
  • Superman getting his hand caught in the fireplace.
  • Superman returning the American flag to the White House at the end.
  • A lot of the scenes involving the big guy Non; I guess they were too silly for Richard Donner’s tastes…
I also feel that the altered cut is a little uneven; I think it’s because a number of transitioning shots were removed, so the movie seems to jump from one place to the next.

Aside from all that, the film is still really swell (if not a bit dated), Zod and his gang are awesome villains, the acting/writing are great, the story is pretty good…pretty darn fun overall.

4.5/5 (entertainment: 4.5/5, story: 4/5, film: 4.5/5)

Comparatively, I grade the Theatrical Cut:

4/5 (entertainment: 4.5/5, story: 3.5/5, film: 4/5)

Well i can understand your arguement, the movie did have allot of weak points but the quote "She chewed her food real good" was just mentioning she was classy vs being a *****.

Chewing food real good equates to classy in the west?

There's numerous other examples, but I need not bring them up. I wouldn't subject anyone to watching that film though.

I agree with you that the theme of dealing with the belongings is interesting, as I've been through all of that with my Great Aunt and my Grandparents belongings (tons of antiques and paintings like in this film). So it definitely struck home, but the film just didn't interest me. Oh well, there's plenty more Criterions out there for me to see. Hopefully I can get to Revanche tonight

If you havent seen it, The Family Stone is a very similar "feeling" movie. Its just very real as well and a great mix of Drama, comedy, heartbreak, tension and hope. Very real, like life. I think you would really like it based on your enjoyment of Dan in Real Life.
Yea I really enjoyed the Family Stone also! and your right I did like it! ha but yea I really films like these.

Unforgiven

Movie 10/10

Best western ive ever viewed.

For a long time Tombstone was my favorite western ( who can blame me, Doc Holiday was the man) But Unforgiven is the entire package what a great movie. I now see why it was an academy award winner. I especially love how
[Show spoiler]Clint Eastwood turns into a bad ass in the last 20 mins of the movie

Overall this is a MUST OWN film!!
