Overlooking SACD was nothing to do with Sony, it was an intentional part of their strategy that was driven by technical doctrine and nothing else. Bob Stuart and Meridian have been the most committed of all developers and supporters of PCM audio. They didn't do SACD because they beleived that PCM was the way to go instead of DSD. There are several technical white papers on the Meridian web-site that explain this. Since BD makes good use of linear and lossless compressed PCM audio, Meridian (who developed MLP of course) are well-aligned.
