Default Some Screen Grabs from UK Box Set

These are not so much to show off what the HD transfer looks like These were taken from my cell phone.... The first shot is from the screen that is known as VIRTUAL Disney where you access the Bonus Features from the previous DVD Special Edition.

The Next Two Images Seem to show that the BLU Ray release shows more frame information than the previous DVD edition. MenuScreen.jpg

Again these are poor quality the DVD is Image 1 and the Blu Image 2. I realize THE BLU transfer looks blurred and Soft and no detail... believe me it is there the image was in motion. Not Exact Frames.

FAN1.jpg
FAN2.jpg

Also I noticed that the title on my PS3 Screen for these UK Discs list it as FANTASIA DIAMOND EDITION. Just FYI.

I posted Blu-Ray screenshots a few pages back, but yeah there is much frame information on the Blu-Ray than the DVD

Have you checked out Taylor before the Intermission? You can see now that he is actually holding a cigarette case Just don't burn the place down Deems!

Also, anyone know of any good deals for Fantasia/2000 blu ray? All I see is a $10 coupon off if you buy that along with the sorcerer's apprentice. The latter film does NOT interest me.
I really have no idea why they gave me the extra $5 off. It was just there when I went to check out:

I'm not sure how many people have heard this, but according to the DMC, Pinocchio, Snow White, and the Fantasia collection will be going into the vault this January 31st, 2011. I like most people familiar with the vault expected Pinocchio and Snow White to go in next year, but the Fantasia collection comes as a bit of a surprise. Talk about your limited release. It's similar to the situation with BATB's Platinum Edition, although it seems that the BATB Diamond Edition seems to be sticking around. The UK still has separate releases planned for March though, so is it possible that the US will see similar releases next year and this set is just to tie-in with the Sorcerer's Apprentice? There already quite a few animated classics planned for next year, though. Either way if for some reason you had any doubts about getting this release week, don't hesitate.

Sorcerer's Apprentice had zero to do with it (and Amazon promoting it with Fantasia was more of a favor to SA, as Disney was unceremoniously dumping their losses without fanfare)--
Just that we were supposed to get Fantasia for our regularly scheduled March Diamond title and we didn't (thanks loads, Dumbo), but in the video industry, October-November BF season is sacred.

I'd like some confirmation on that premature vault date, too--
I knew about Snow White and Pinocchio all along, as they follow the standard 14-month pattern, but Disney would have given us a LOT more warning ahead of time if they intended one of their big releases for three months, a la the Narnia SE DVD a few years ago.

Any discussion of prices in the US? I am wondering if Amazon's 28.99 is the lowest (I would assume not). I don't mind paying a couple bucks for the convienence of not fighting the crowd, but if it will be less than $20 out the door that would change my mind....

it will be less than 20 out the door if you use the 10 dollar off coupon. if it stays at 28.99 thats 18.99. obv tax comes after which may make it 21. walmart's site has it for 28.96 but i believe it will drop closer to release to atleast 26.99, if not 24.99 like most new releases have been. i mean its 2 blu rays and 2 dvds. no digi copies and no 3d copies so this combo pack cant be too ridiculous in price.

Can anyone confirm that animation historian Brian Sibley, in the commentary track for the "Pastorale", states that the offending shots of the Sunflower centaurette were indeed first cut in 1960?

Growing up, it was always my understanding from Leonard Maltin's tome The Disney Films that the sequence had been cut in the 50's. "Kostal also arranged a suitable bridge for the brief sequence involving a black centaurette that had been cut from the racially-sensitive 1950s." (Maltin, The Disney Films 4th Edition, p.45)

Meanwhile, the Fantasia Anthology states that the footage was not cut until the 1969 release, and they have no explanation for why the stated running time of the 1969 version is exactly the same as the 1947 version (and they say so, i.e., "We can't explain it.")

Maltin says the 50's, Sibley (allegedly) says 1960, Fantasia liner notes say 1969...can anyone out there with the set give the commentary a listen and confirm that Sibley says 1960?

There was no '60 release. It was released in '56 and '69, So I'm sure any Sibley comments would refer to "the '60s" not specifically 1960.

I'm not sure why you think the run time would be different for the films. The footage was zoomed in awkwardly to move the character out of frame (and in more recent years, digitally removed). There may have been a few trims of a few frames, but not amounting to more than a couple of seconds. The "offensive" shots were just that - shots. Not entire scenes.

I have not read Maltin's work, but pretty much every other history I've read on the subject lists '69 as the year the changes were made.

EDIT: Actually, the zoomed shots came in the '80s. But the excised footage still only comes out to several seconds.

I stopped following this thread a while back and I'm sure its already been discussed but any chance somebody could tell me what the differences between the region A and B (UK) release are? And most importantly, if the US version will be region free (if known yet)?

Thanks.

If you have the Fantasia Anthology, go to Disc 3 and you'll find among the features a detailed breakdown of each Fantasia release, the differences between prior releases. When they come to the 1969 release, the disc states this was the first time the character was cut, but they then state they cannot explain why the running time for the "cut" version is the exact same running time as the 1947 "popular" version (non-roadshow).

Maltin says, "from the 50's", Disney says 1969, and I don't know what Sibley said, which is why I am asking if someone has the disc, if they can pop it in and tells us exactly what he relates.

There is no Platinum Edition. There was a 60th Anniversary Edition which came out on DVD and the 70th Anniversary Edition which just came out on Blu-ray. A few months ago, Disney changed the "edition" title a few times in various press releases, but there is only one version.

Note: There are some international releases on Blu-ray including a British and German version with slightly different packaging, but the film is the same.

Okey!, I live in europe and here they are releasing two versions platinum and special ed. Platinum is called "fantasia 2000"..... the other is special edition but looks like that is the "orginal" since it is 20 min shorter.

(Uh, just checking but you do know Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 are different movies, right? Kind of hard to tell from the post. )

Thanks, just what I was looking for, those screen caps are AMAZING! I can't wait to see and hear this.

It's just one week away now but man this week is going to go by so slow as I wait.

Are people really going to cry over this centaur business.. it's been cropped from the movie like 4 DECADES AGO.. take your tissue box and move on. I'm twenty years old and here I am listening to grown men and women born in the 60's/70's whine and complain about stupid stuff like that. Grow Up!
