There have been some amazing action movies over the course of cinema, so that's not exactly fair. I could list 20 more too, but that doesn't mean I thought this wasn't entertaining. I also liked most of the action. I thought the nice and long final battle was pretty good. The movie was exactly what I expected.

I just don't agree, that's all. I'll be adding The Expendables to my collection at some point, but it's fine if you don't feel the same.

There are maybe 2 movies that I have ever seen in my whole life (have seen over 1000 movies) that I didnt like.
Expendables joined them.

P.S. Saw it with a group of 5 guys my age (around 20s) and that they said that this movies was just bad.

I never was discussing personal tastes because its obvious that people have differrent tastes.
I just want to know if you think the movie is badly made.

Best description I found on Rotten Tomatoes.

It's fun to see this aging cast together on screen, but the movie is junk. The one-liners aren't funny, the dialogue is tedious, and the action itself is prosaic and repetitive

P.S. I might seem too aggressive on this flick but its only because this is such a wasted opportunity.

holy F! maybe 2 you didn't like out of over 1,000? talk about being easy to please!
i've seen (what i know for sure) over 700 myself and i absolutely hated around 100 of those. and strongly disliked around another 100 more. and found another 100-150 "meh" at best. so hearing out of over 1,000 movies you dislike (give or take) 2 blows my mind!

The Rules of Attraction

i watched this again tonight, and rewatching it now again with Carrot Top's commentary (and while 99% of the time i HATE him, he is hysterical here and the only reason he does the commentary is because "they couldn't find anyone else and he had nothing better to do" ) and there are few films i love as much as The Rules of Attraction

it's not the best made film in the world. hell, it probably wouldn't even be in top 1,000 best made movies list (if there was one) but it's a film i connect with in a lot more ways than normal human beings would / do.

the film is essentially the following descriptive words, in no order (and the words also apply to the characters themselves):

- selfish

- hostile

- bored

- rich

- egotistical

- narcissistic

- cold

- depressed / depressing

- dark satirical

- bleak

- offensive (to some)

- greedy

- violent

- drug-induced / obsessed, drunks

- too much free time

- lack of empathy

- sex obsessed

- callous

- shallow

of course, that makes the movie not really something a lot of people want to see. but i loved it. have since the day i bought it on dvd in 2002/2003. i was shocked, amazed, in awe of the dark comedy and intensely cold, lazy and unforgiving and selfish characters. these are not people to connect with, these are people to loathe, hate and not connect with. but for some reason i do (besides being very similar to the themes above).

one of my favorite movies of all time.
great performances, score, atmosphere, and directing. love every second of this genius film

5/5

you can do all this but you can't make a list of 5 or 10 favorite films?

here's what you do: obviously, most (if not all) of the 5/5's would be high on the list, and so on and so forth with 3/5's generally being above 2/5's and whatnot (of course there could always be an exception). and guess what? you have a general outline of a list! then you just gotta tweak it a little where you feel it needs work.

and i saw you make a list of your top 10 favorite films of 2010, so don't give me crap about not being able to get past the first three. you did it there, you could do it here!

Making a Top 10 for a year is different than top 10 overall though

I did make it to Top 5 Ever though remember!?

Those other ones listed under 5/5 (in addition to whatever else I have given a 5/5 but don't own, Lion King for example) are movies I absolutely love, but when it comes time to think of a Top 10 Ever list, for some reason it doesn't feel right placing them on the list with the others...of course, that could be simply because my Top 4 are so far ahead of the others

i honestly have no idea, i don't own it yet, just the dvd still
i always forget to order it when i'm on amazon because i forget it's not released in the u.s. yet and while i'd love to wait for a u.s. release, i don't see it happening soon - if ever. and i keep forgetting to pm someone who owns it.

seeing as it was made with a budget of 4 MIL and edited using some brand new and (relatively) cheap Apple editing product to keep costs down, i don't know how this would look on blu. i enjoy grain in films, and the dvd definitely appears to have some grain, this is not a clean and pristine looking film i'm sure, so i wouldn't be surprised if people complain that it's "blurry" and whatnot.

but for $15 to have this on blu, i'll get it soon. and if i could remember to order the damn thing i would already own it by now lol

have you seen the film?

I've seen it a LONG time ago, can't remember if I liked it or not but it would probably be worth it. Might be awhile though, lot of stuff coming out or that came out recently that I want so it'll be some time before I do another "risk" buy.

damn right you should've seen that coming!

yeah, top 10 for a year is different from overall, but take your top 5 from each of the last... let's say 5 years and then put them in order. you could then go from there. see? making lists aren't so hard

what i still do (because selecting which film i like more than another is extremely difficult in many spots (mainly 5-15 as example)) is to just group them together. so for you, you enjoy The Dark Knight, Toy Story, Toy Story 3, Star Trek (2009) and others. so they go in one "grouping" while the 1/5's and 2/5's generally go in another one.

again, a rough outline for a list, but without assigning a specific order to each film

Always loved this movie, consider it to be the best Robin Hood movie to date, also the hottest Maid Marian ever.
Better than Cate Blanchett?!!!

Actually, I suppose it is a close one between the two. I think Cate's a little more badass, but Mary Elizabeth Manstrantonio is probably the more realistic character.

It just seemed a very average movie, I would say Direct To Video type, with the exception that some DTV movies ddo a better job in making you immersed in the movie.
While seing old folks come together was nice, this movie just didnt do it to me (this happens very rarely, I like all Stallone movie - all Rockies, Rambos).
I was not connected to the characters, fighting scenes where very shacky and not exciting.

In one word, it was a very medicore movie overall. D
What do you guys think? Am I the only one unimpressed with this movie?

2.5/5
Haven't even seen it yet. Hasn't even been a priority viewing for me, given all these bad reviews. But the preview looked cool, so I will give it a try some time.

Fighting - 2.5/5

Hadn't seen this in a while and I forgot how bad it was. It's not terrible, but most aspects of the film are pretty weak. The story is kinda lame, the chemistry between Tatum and the girl is very awkward, the fights aren't that cool and the dialogue is a joke at times. Terrence Howard completely carries this film.

It's a bad film, but definitely worth a rent because there's lots of ass kickin and some good humor. Just don't expect anything too amazing

I didn't know Ponyo was your intro to Miyazaki. That's great it affected you so much. It had a big impact on my gf as well (also her first Miyazaki). My first was Princess Mononoke and to this day I still consider it his best film. I remember I rented the VHS as a kid and told my mom it was lost so I could watch it over and over again

True. Plus I'm really not a fan of the fake-looking CG blood. In Rambo it was manageable, but Expendables really did an awful job with it.

But the
