Chris Peterson might be the best in the nation at developing talent, another good example would be Kirk Ferentz. Boise State and Iowa always end up with a lot of players that were not given offers from other big football schools and makes them stars.

Just decided to browse the spread for the various championship week games.

CUSA Title - UCF favored over SMU by 9

Boise St. favored over Utah St. by 39.5 - I'd forgotten Boise had a game left

Oregon favored over Oregon St. by 16.5

SEC Title - Auburn favored over South Carolina by 5 - I'm a little surprised the spread isn't more like 7 or 8. Still SC is pretty good.

ACC Title - Va Tech favored over FSU by 4

Big 12 - Oklahoma favored over Nebraska by 3.5

USC favored over UCLA by 6.5

Minnesota was absolutely horrible this year and they still beat Iowa, something most of their opponents failed to do, they also somehow beat Indiana. I wonder if they could beat Miami, that would probably be a pretty good game.

Right now, I don't think Miami could beat Middle Tennessee State. They are a lost team and have no fight or emotion in them. They need good leadership desperately.

I'd be surprised if BSU wins that game by more than 10 points, that team is beyond demoralized and really has nothing left to play for after dropping 7 spots in the BCS rankings.

Here might be part of the problem for Miami. They aren't exactly know for paying their coaches like top-tier college teams usually do. Randy Shannon was just 34th of out of 115 or whatever D1 coaches in salary last year. I believe their assistants are likewise paid well below other "top-tier program" coaches. I know Miami is a private college but I was a bit surprised when I read this. You'd think they would have rich alumni groups that would pay to bring in a top-tier coach.

I disagree with that strongly. I'll bet they come out fired up as ever. That Boise team is loaded with seniors who want to end their last regular season with another big win. I'd compare it somewhat to Florida last year. A lot of people were thinking Tebow and the Gators wouldn't give 100% in the Sugar Bowl coming off a huge loss to Alabama which ended their national title repeat dreams. The Gators were fired up and wiped the floor with Cincinnati. I wouldn't worry about and lack of desire with Boise. They always play with a chip on their shoulder.

I heard the other day that Miami recently held a fundraiser in which they secured about $65 million, so I think they can pay a deserving coach about $3-4 million per year right now.

Miami is going to be really amping up their football budget. Our athletic director, Kirby Hocutt, has said Miami is going to be making changes to insure that we continue our rise back to the top. I still say that I think it is going to be Dan Mullen as our next coach. I just don't see Gruden as a college coach with the exception of Notre Dame, he's more of an NFL guy. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him leading the 'Canes, but it's wishful thinking.

Miami is still pursuing Jon Gruden for the Hurricanes head coaching job vacated when Randy Shannon was fired Saturday.

A source close to the search said Tuesday night that Miami expects to speak with Gruden, who other Miami sources have indicated is still the Hurricanes' top choice. Gruden, a former NFL coach for the Bucs and Raiders who is a broadcaster for ESPN's Monday Night Football, issued a statement Sunday night: "I am committed to Monday Night Football and to ESPN. I enjoy working with Mike, Jaws and our entire crew and am just trying to get better at this job."

Miami has said it does not plan to confirm the names of any candidates until it makes a hire, and the university has not revealed a timetable for that move.

Miami fired Shannon on Saturday night, hours after Miami lost to South Florida in its regular-season finale. The Hurricanes fell to 7-5, still have yet to play for an Atlantic Coast Conference title and lured only 26,369 fans -- many of them rooting for the visitors -- to Sun Life Stadium on Saturday, the smallest home crowd since Larry Coker's last home game in 2006.

The Associated Press, citing an anonymous source, reported Sunday that Gruden, the former Buccaneers coach, is atop Miami's wish list to fill the position and that Gruden received "parameters" of an offer from the Hurricanes.

Mullen would be a good hire. He has strong ties in the state and has done a good job at Mississippi State in his two year there, taking them from 4-8 to 8-4 and a top 25 ranking.

Gruden is not going to Miami. He just enjoys the attention he gets when he's linked to a job, but I don't believe he has any real interest in the job. He's either going to stay in the MNF booth or go to the NFL. If Gruden wanted to coach college he would have made a strong effort for the Notre Dame job last year.

It's really only a matter of time, but you really have to feel for TCU this year. They aren't going to get a shot at the title, and they deserve it.

But that time frame could be another f'n decade. They keep extending this BCS nonsense in roughly 5 year increments. Boggles the mind that all the smaller divisions have a 16 team playoff yet D1 can't even get so much as an 8 team playoff.

The current BCS contract expires in (I believe) two more years, I'm hoping after that we can get a real playoff system going. There will be more money to be made, and the NCAA has to take that into consideration. Money talks.

ESPN's contract to air BCS games expires in 2014. That doesn't mean there couldn't be a change to the current BCS structure but at best it would be a plus-1 format. There won't be an 8-team playoff before 2014.

Looking forward to 2014 being the kind of season we should've had in college football a long time ago then.

The Denver Post says that Colorado has offered their head coaching job to Redskins tight end coach Jon Embree, although the school denies it. Former coach Bill McCartney, who was a candidate for the job, told the Post:

"It was never about me doing it again," McCartney said in an interview with The Denver Post. "It was about setting the table for a black man to come in (as head coach). And he (Bohn) hired one. Now, give him a chance."

Colorado is hoping Embree, a Colorado grad, will hire fellow Colorado grad and Vikings assistant Eric Bieniemy as his offensive coordinator. It's not surprising Colorado hired the job to Embree. They are in very poor shape financially and couldn't afford a big-name coach.

I dont really follow college, mostly because of no playoffs, so what is a plus-1 ?
