Sorry for bringing this up, but I went far back reading CriterionForum and found a true quote by someone posting on Criterion's facebook page (prob the start of why they don't answer anymore). Here is the real quote:

Spoiler for language:
[Show spoiler]Whose dick do I have to suck for a Criterion release of Dennis Hopper's Out of the Blue? Please tell me. Really.

I hope that guy got the job done. It was last year in 09, so hopefully Criterion got the message.

Yeah, I thought it would too. Either tomorrow or Monday. No biggie. I'll probably have time to watch it after I leave college for Christmas break next week.

I love horror too (or I wouldn't of even watched it). I guess I just mean horror-only people.

Would you recommend getting Stagecoach for $22? Or would getting something like The Searchers be better? I dunno. One of the two.

Stagecoach is a really good movie and the restoration is very impressive. I was also kind of surprised at how subtle some of John Wayne's scenes were. I've never been in the 'oh, he's just a popular hack' camp but I've never really thought of him as much of an actor either but this had me rethinking that.

I can't really compare it to The Searchers (it's been a loooooong time) but you can't go wrong with Stagecoach.

The Searchers is some hardcore eye candy, and is as cynical as Stagecoach is classically optimistic. The Searchers is also dirt cheap most of the time. But between the two, moviewise, I would say Stagecoach wins pretty easily.

Stagecoach is formula in its best and purest sense. I assumed that since it was such a template for classic western tropes that it would be dull or predictable at times. But, like Wages of Fear, even when it is plain as day by now which tricks of the trade are being used, I still fall for it. Because at the end of the day, it is just great film making.

At least, that is my two cents.

Stagecoach set the stage (no pun intended) for the "look" of the classic American Western film...pure, plain, and simple. It's a very important film, that in a lot of ways, was way ahead of it's time and contained character types, that were not fashionable in that period of time in American films. Besides the fact, that it was a great film by a great director.

The Searchers is just another GREAT film by Ford. Beautifully acted and directed and looks just GREAT on blu! Simply gorgeous! And for what it was, another important film.

The Seachers can be had pretty cheaply these days on blu...usually around $9.99 or a tad cheaper (got mine at BJs for $9.99...and it's still there in stock).

Stagecoach is typically at Best Buy for $29.99...but you can close/a bit better on Amazon or even B & N with membership and coups. Stagecoach (with no B & N Criterion sale) at $22.00...is a steal.

I know...not helping you make a decision...but considering the price of The Searchers...I would get both!

Dragged myself out of bed this morning to watch "Scrooged" in the theater. If anyone else is in RI right now you have about ten minutes to get here.

How is this Criterion-related? It's not.

I break all the rules, honkies!

Not Criterion related, but a great movie nevertheless!

Yeah, I appreciate it. I think Stagecoach, being pretty cheap on Amazon, will get a purchase from me. The Searchers I'll get later on. Thanks, everybody.

Consider it ordered. Still waiting on Vivre Sa Vie, too.

That is what I am getting at.
I don't know if they were or not, I was just stating that I had heard of them before

I know I'm like 5 pages behind all of this, but I was reading these just now and I have to say...someone like Uwe Boll would NEVER be able to pull off a movie like Inception. Look at his movies and compare them to Nolan's.

Nolan has this sort of following (no pun intended) BECAUSE of the movies he has made, Batman films included. Uwe Boll has released nothing but crap. I don't think it is fair to say, "but what if Boll made Inception..." He might very well make a movie called Inception, but it wouldn't be the same as Nolan's. He is a very different kind of director. People would go into that particular movie with the assumption that it may suck based on his other work, just like people went into Inception with the mind set that it would be intriguing on every level (no pun intended)...based on films like Following, Memento, TDK, The Prestige, etc.

Let me ask you this: what is "wrong" with the hype following (no pun intended) Inception? People still talk about Pulp Fiction, Silence of the Lambs, Star Wars, Alien/s, etc.

50 years from now, people of that new generation may be introduced to films like Inception (and all the other "best movie ever made" of our era) like people of our generation were introduced to the classics of the 30's-70's, depending on when you were born.
