A Christmas Carol

Director: Robert Zemeckis
Writers: Charles Dickens and, Robert Zemeckis
Stars: Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman and Colin Firth

"Bah! Humbug... What reason have you to be merry? You're poor enough"

Plot (IMDb): An animated retelling of Charles Dickens' classic novel about a Victorian-era miser taken on a journey of self-redemption, courtesy of several mysterious Christmas apparitions.

My Take: This was allot different from what I expected. Pretty erie at times but fulfilling none the less. This is the animated version of 'The Scrooge" and i'll have to say it is pretty cool. I wasn't blown away like I am by most pixar films but the film was good. This is a very adult theme'd movie and kids probably wont get that into the film. I story of understanding the joy's of christmas and a somewhat gritty nature. The opening scene made me feel like I watching 9. Anyway the movie was cool and nice to say the least and I can see myself watching this again. Jim Carrey did a great job with the voices as well.

Conclusion: Not your typical Disney movie and not your typical Christmas movie but still a good movie. This animated version of "The Scrooge" was pretty good. The visuals are good and the story is good and gritty for all you adults. Not a children's animated film because of the heavy adult themes. Don't get me wrong your child can watch it with you but they might not understand some of the underline messages. Recommended

3.5/5

Note: PQ and AQ 4.5/5 wasnt as strong as it could of been for a animated film.

The Town

Director: Ben Affleck
Writers: Peter Craig and Ben Affleck
Mains: Ben Affleck, Rebecca Hall and Jon Hamm

"You grew up right here! Same rules that I did."

Plot (IMDb): As he plans his next job, a longtime thief tries to balance his feelings for a bank manager connected to one of his earlier heists, as well as the FBI agent looking to bring him and his crew down.

My Take: Wow this was a great movie. First thing that came to mind when watching The Town was Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro's "HEAT". I might be the minority here but i definitely think that this story is better than HEAT. The story was amazing and well done. This is Ben Affleck's best work by far. The Characters are real (at times) and believable. This movie host characters that you will never forget just as HEAT did. This movie was damn near perfect but the over dramatized boston accents where a little to much IMO. If im wrong than the picture was perfect. My favorite character was the Sharp but sloppy cop. He has to be the slickest cop ever. I also loved the Blake Lively's performance! Everyone did a great job and at the end of the day The Town was a SUCESS!

Conclusion: This movie is Highly Recommended and thats the Bottom Line. Clearly one of the better films of the year and awesomely performed. You wont get nothing less from this film but Pure Entertainment. Ben Affleck has proven that he's a worthy actor and director with this feature film. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

the picture is "perfect" then, because you're wrong with the accents
Affleck is from that region of Boston, and had that accent for a very long time. and when making The Town he wanted everyone to have very authentic accents and from what i've read, many of the main characters practiced hours a day and spent a plethora of time with people from Charleston to get it down perfectly.

yeah, it may be seen as a bit "over the top" and hard to understand, but hell, that's how some Bostonians accents are. Blake Lively (Krista) actually grew up and spent her entirely life in California and when she auditioned she had the accent down so well Affleck thought she as actually from Boston. i imagine that's an impressive feat to fool someone FROM Boston with a Boston accent.

Forrest Gump

I'm going to give away what score this one gets right in my opening paragraph. I can't believe I forgot this movie when making my Top 15 list It is EASILY one of my favorite movies period (which makes me wonder if there's anything else I completely forgot to include ). I suppose my not having seen it in its entirety in years helped me to forget to include it on my list, but now that I remember to place it on the list, it clocks in at #5.

The movie is just fantastic imo. I don't need to go over the story, because there is probably like 13 people in the world who don't know what Forrest Gump is about.
It's highly enjoyable, sometimes hilarious, sometimes incredibly sad and everything in between.

I don't know how many lines from this movie I could quote, but its quite a bit of them. So many lines I love in this movie besides the most known ones like the chocolates and stupid is as stupid does.
[Show spoiler]You got new legs. Magic legs.
I was running! That's all I have to say about that. Because you told me to drill sergeant! Run Forrest run! Can't sit here. I only caught five... I'm sorry I had a fight at your Black Panther party. And on and on and on
Also, I used to go to school with a girl named Jenny and every time I saw her I would say her name like Gump does in the movie .

The character of Gump is just so likable; if you don't like Forrest then you have no soul....okay, that's probably a little too dramatic
He's such a "simple" character, that right from the beginning of the film you know who he is and he's the same simple, likable guy throughout the entire film even with all the things he goes through. Hanks is great in the role; definitely his best performance of his that I've seen (Splash, The Money Pit, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, Cast Away, Road to Perdition, The Terminal and of course his voice work as Woody in the Toy Story films).

The other main characters in his life are great as well and all of the actors do very good.

Gary Sinise is definitely my favorite of the supporting cast; very strong performance from him and a character that I love.

Robin Wright's Jenny would be next behind Lt. Dan as my favorite supporting character. I thought her and Hanks were great together in there scenes.

And then of course, who would forget Mykelti Williamson's Bubba...and his speeches about shrimp
I had no idea that he was the guy who played the head of CTU in the last season of 24
Didn't even recognize him.

I don't think I'll say anything else about this one, because it would just be more "I like this", "I love that" and I think I've made my point that I love this movie quite evident...plus its 3 a.m.
Or maybe I'll mention the great score/use of music in the film. Or perhaps I'll mention the fantastic effects (ex: blending of Hanks with archive footage). Mayhaps I should touch on the firefight during the Vietnam segment. Or...nah

I'm glad I watched it tonight because I had forgotten just how much I do love this film.

If you're one of those 13 people who haven't seen Forrest Gump, rent it or buy it now.
[Show spoiler]

And that's all I have to say about that.

Rating - 5/5

Flags of Our Fathers - 2006

I'm generally a fan of WWII movies, specifically one's that focus on the european theater of war. This one focuses on the war in Japan, specifically Iwa Jima.

The more I watch Clint Eastwood's work as a director, the more I realize that I don't really care for his style. Now I'm not talking about his acting roles.... that's a completely different subject, one where he excels. I've watched about 6 of his movies where he is the director and I'm always having a hard time completely enjoying his work. At the same time, I can see the quality of his directing, albeit a slow and slightly boring style for my tastes.

With that said, I was bored through 3/4 of this movie, mostly because of the storyline and script. That's the way I feel every time I watch a movie directed by Clint Eastwood. I still felt that Flags of Our Fathers was a quality movie, but I just couldn't really get into it.

PQ - 8/10
AQ - 7.5/10

Overall, I felt that this movie was just OK.

Plot (IMDb): A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.

My Take: Ok this movie has 2 of my favorite actors and I believe in God and the Holy Bible. Now thats out the way, this movie started slow but got good very fast. Its not as depressing as most post-apocalyptic movies but focuses more on faith within times of trouble. This movie has underline messages and goes as deep as the viewer allows it. The action is pretty good, Gary Oldman and Denzel Washington play their roles to the tee. This is the battle between good and evil, religion and faith. The history of our future and past all through one book. Its kinda predictable but still good non the less. There's a little twist at the end that will stir up a nice little convo.

Conclusion: If you believe in or know of God I would recommend this without hesitation. There are a couple of scenes of the movie that could of been done better, but that's what separates greats from averages. This story is cool, the action is very good. The underline messages are AMAZING. This is a very symbolic and has allot of great moral beliefs attached.

Cool. I saw this in the theater with my dad; he complained that the twist ending was too unrealistic

. But heck, I give it the same rating as you, and found it rather enjoyable.

Letters From Iwo Jima - 2006

As a follow up (not really a sequel) to Flags of Our Fathers, I expected more of the same from Clint Eastwood. I was a little surprised.

From the start, I had no idea that this was a Japanese spoken movie with English subtitles, so I had to get used to that. As the movie progressed, I found myself getting into the movie a bit more than I did with Flags of Our Fathers. The character development was better, the script was better, and I felt the storyline was better as well.

While I wasn't blown away with Clint's follow up effort to "Flags", I still enjoyed it more throughout. I said it before and I'll say it again. I feel that Clint is a quality director, but his directing is slightly on the boring side. I hope that I'm not the only one who feels this way, because in no way am I putting down Clint's ability.

PQ - 8.5/10
AQ - 7.5/10

Overall, I was happier with Letters From Iwo Jima than Flags of Our Fathers. It had a better storyline, better script, and better acting. Not the best WWII movie at all, but far from the worst.

7.5/10

Accurate.

I find Eastwood's direction a hit and a miss at times. I do like "Gran Torino," "Changeling," etc, but I disliked "Pale Rider" and "The Unforgiven," and found "Sudden Impact" just okay.

As far as the Iwo Jima saga goes, I also found "Flags of Our Fathers" just okay. But I really liked "Letters from Iwo Jima" a lot. Have you seen that one yet? It's pretty darn intense.

Now on the other hand, Gran Turino kicked ass. That was his best movie as a director.

Unforgiven is his best movie as a director, but I did enjoy Gran Torino, But the very poor acting really does kill it, for me.

Inception

Director: Christopher Nolan
Writer: Christopher Nolan
Mains: Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ellen Page

"Don't you want to take a leap of faith? Or become an old man, filled with regret, waiting to die alone! "

Plot (IMDb): In a world where technology exists to enter the human mind through dream invasion, a highly skilled thief is given a final chance at redemption which involves executing his toughest job to date: Inception.

My Take: Well its time for the official review and here it is. Christopher Nolan has blessed us with many unique films Memento, Insomnia, but now he is really changing the game with his blockbuster successes. Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Prestige. Now here is Inception, his most entertaining blockbuster film without the hollywood feel. Nolan treats his viewers with respect by making unique films that allow you to use your brain a little. Inception is another one of those Masterpiece's. Now for the film, Inception was great from beginning to end. The whole movie requires much attention and the production value is amazing. There are scenes that are simply mind blowing. The story itself is quite interesting. A world where your deepest secrets can be stolen within your own dreams. I loved it loved it loved it. Nolan kept the movie entertaining with special effects, interesting with the great story, and a little more for the great acting. DiCaprio did what he does best and it shows off a ton in this little feature title. This is a film that will be talked about for a while just because of the ending. I wont spoil it for you but this movie is GREAT and deserves the attention of ANY movie lover. Especially if you like Mystery/Thrillers.

Conclusion: Inception is nothing shorter than a TOP NOTCH entertaining blockbuster. Probably Nolan's biggest success as a director not because of revenue but because of the unique little story. Its not his best film (which IMO is Memento) but its an addition to his great early legacy. Nolan is on his way to the top of all directors. If you're a fan of Mystery, DiCaprio, or Nolan this is a MUST OWN. Well is pretty much a MUST OWN without being a fan of those above.

MUST OWN

5/5

Note: The PQ 4.5/5 very good. The AQ was AMAZING 5/5

I agree with most of that and gave it 4.5/5.

The two friends I showed it to didn't like it though. Amazing how views can differ so much.

Still a very entertaining movie non the less but if you dont believe in the Bible you probably might not like it as much as others. Glad you liked it too
