"Smoother look" with a stand alone???

Dude, step away from the Hookah! ... JK, we're all friends here

Unless you can have both a standalone and the PS3 sitting side by side to compare, you really can't say that one is anymore smooth than the other... and before you come back with "the guy at circuit city showed me both side by side" think for a minute, you are looking at BD, and trying to decide, who set up the test? you or him? which unit does he REALLY want to sell you? Does he want to get the commission on 600, or does he want the commission on 1000? Thats why I put a bit more weight into the review I linked above, he isn't on commission, and there is no benifit to him wether you buy it or not.

Updating is a snap, plug it in to an ethernet connection, and click on update.

As for how it looks:

Besides, when you are watching a movie, its going to have the lights turned down, and no one will give a damn how the player looks

I'm loving the PS3, and as for all this garbage about how it doesn't have all the features of stand alones, for the most part that is crap, it has 5.1, DTS, ACC, and 7.1 (granted, it only has 7.1 if you use an HDMI reciever) Drop an extra 25 and get the remote, and it will stand toe to toe with darn near anything
