Samsung BD-P1400 Issue:

Last week I bought Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition on blu-ray, got home popped it in and began to play it. About 5 minutes into it something new began to happen, the chapter menu popped up during the film. It kept doing it every 1-2 minutes. I took the batteries out of my remote, it still did it. Thinking it might be the blu-ray disc, I tried another one, SAME THING! Has anyone encountered this problem before?

I don't want to buy a new player if I don't have to

I'd be grateful for any help!

I would upgrade to the newest FW (2.4) released just a couple weeks ago.

Here's the link: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/BD-P1400

I've had that happen with a few movies. "Whip It" and "ATeam" spring to mind. BOTH are 20th Century Fox discs.

As is "Predator." IMO, 20th Century has some "issues" with pop ups.

Install the the FW 2.4. I bet it will help the issue.

It helped with my issues. "Salt" wouldn't load. Now it does.

Good luck. - AJ

I have this player in my son's room and after installing FW 2.4, it plays everything. I know Percy Jackson would not play and others I can't remember, but that has been fixed. Not bad for a player purchased in late 2007. Obviously, obsolete...but it is doing its job .

I, too, bought the 1400 in August, 2007. Actually started out with the 1200 but had to trade it in for the 1400. Still miss the HQ chip.

But I digress.

I live alone. Don't want another player. Don't care how long it takes to load. Don't want to learn how to install FW on a different player.

I'm old. grins. I hate change.

So I'm thrilled that Samsung has not forgotten the early adopters that put them on the BD map. And continue to upgrade the FW for the 1400. Told 'em that on the phone.

The 12 of us 1400 owners/users that are left must stick together. grins. - AJ

Unhappy It is with great sadness>>>>>

>>>that I say goodbye, fellow (and few remaining ) Sammy 1400 owners.

Sigh.

As an early adopter (August, 2007) I'd hoped my 1400 would "live forever."

Not to be.

Long story. My cable provider is partially to blame, I'm sure. But my 1400 "died" last Saturday afternoon. 2-5-11. (Taps playing) Not worth "fixing." Even if it could be. Sad. Very sad. grins.

Must say I really loved my 1400. Was "attached." grins.

As an "old lady" retired teacher and "tech-challenged (doing FW updates has always been scary for me. ), I didn't want a "new" player. How would I ever hook it up.

Well hit me over the head with a brick.. I bought a Sammy C5500 for $110 and hooked it up myself.

OMG!! Had no idea what I was missing just regarding "load" times.

With the 1400 I could usually do a load of laundry before the movie loaded. HA! But as long as it worked, I was happy.

The 5500? WOW! Loads right now in comparison. I've been watching so many movies since I got it on Sunday. With the 1400 I found myself putting off watching a movie I bought. I realize now blu-ray watching wasn't "fun" for me anymore with the slow/old player. (Hey! I'm slow and old! HA! )

There are some differences re: settings. Haven't figured it all out yet.

And the FW files come in .ruf form instead of .iso. Which is confusing for me so far. I'm a CD burner when it comes to FW updates. Oh, heck. I'll figure it out.

And I don't connect to the internet or BD Live or stream or Netflix or any of that "stuff." So 70% of the features of this "so reasonably priced" blu-ray player I will never use. I just want a good, reliable BD player.

But I've watched 5 movies since, including one standard DVD, and I'm so THRILLED!!

Except I have to desert our small but faithful group.

All silliness aside, this group has helped me a great deal over the years. Really.

Good luck to all remaining.

And I highly recommend the Sammy C5500 if you need/want a new/fast/small/light/low-priced player.

Must share this post I found on a C5500 forum yesterday. It cracked me up. And I agree.

"I got the 5500 over a month ago and there is one quirk that is giving me fits; I have to get up off the couch and actually put a BD in the slot when it opens.

I've tried rebooting the player with the remote. I've tried yelling at it. I've even called my son in from outside to see if he can help.... I'm at a loss

I'm hoping a FW update will take care of the issue soon or I may have to get off the couch and return this player."

bought 2 month ago that model on sales. I was amazed by prices like DVD players. I thought to buy Phillips BDP2500 for 40euro on sale, but didn't like it, design similar to cheap chinese DVDs like BBK or something. Then i saw that Samsung for a little higher price near 46euro. I doubt i can find somewhere over the world lower price. I bought a few weeks before LCD TV 40" Samsung530 model also on sale for 400euro, so it would be great combination. on New Years Eve i got present Avatar collectors edition. The same day we saw onlyu red screen and warning to update software, a few days later i updated through LAN, then i could watch avatar and was amazed by perfect quality. So now i'm collecting Blu-rays and waiting for first parcel with 7 movies and of course best movie of 2010 Inception. But still waiting time for avatar is too long. Hope for next updates which can fix that. When i load blu-ray with avatar, i have to wait near a few minutes to open actually a movie. First time with blu-rays, so it a little strange to me with comparing to DVDs like in moment you can watch movie.

Default 1400 still running

I have had this blu ray player for over three years and it is is still running strong. It isnt my main machine anymore and doesnt get much use these days compared to the other blu ray players in the house that load faster and get regular firmware updates. I did the latest firmware update today and everything is still hunky dory as i even watched Saw The Final Chaptor. Oh, if you dont know Samsung only updates this guy about once a year which means you may have movies that wont work for a while. Heres to this machine living an even longer and more prosperous life.

Default Star Wars Complete audio issues on BDP-1400

I'm hoping the latest firmware will solve the audio problems in the Star Wars discs (drop outs in ep 4 every minute for 2 seconds approx) - Less frequent in ep5 and the darned extras discs keep crashing after you select a few menu items, then its wait 5 minutes for the darned thing to reboot & reload.

Groan... is it worth keeping the damned thing I ask myself?
