I had the Samsung BD-P3600 and sold it. I was looking at the new Samsung BD-C6500, but it didn't thrill me as it seemed cheaply made with no weight to it and had alot of issues with mine. The 5500 I didn't look at, as it is only wireless ready and I need a wireless player. It is cheaper in the long run to get a player with wireless built in than to buy the wireless device later. I have heard good things on the new Samsung line-up but with my experience, they left a bad taste with me. I bought a LG-BD570 and just exchanged it for a BD 590. When you get it hooked up, let me know what you think. I also heard that the new line up of Samsung players have had no known issues so far.....that's a good thing...enjoy..

I just purchased the Sammy C6500. I couldn't resist the feature set this player has............anyway, I set it up and connected it to the Wifi without any issues. It streams vids very nicely. Played a couple of BD's and standard DVD's..............No issues at all so far. VERY pleased!

Excellent player…
Particularly, I like the Internet@TV feature, which gives you access to internet through the player itself.
Only thing is the application is limited. Currently, only youtube is good for me.
Hope they can open the setting, i.e. allow user to type and pick applications.

Hopefully they will add more options or services to Internet@TV via firmware in the future. Also a traditional web browser would be cool......

I'm thinking about buying this or the C6500, all because I have one problem disc -- the Casino Royale Japanese import BD...

https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-pl...ml#post3087671

The only players that I've found that will play this disc are the Samsung C* series of Blu-ray players. Namely, the C5500, C6500, and C6900 (3D player) all play it fine over at Best Buy. I just didin't want to drop this much money into one movie!

I just purchased the C5500. Tried to watch Avatar and got a red screen. I downloaded the firmware update. It still doesn't work. All they can tell me is I have to wait for the new update. Which all they say is in the near future. I bought the blue ray so that I could watch Avatar the way it should be. I am pissed and just want to take it back and get a ps 3. My father in law has the ps 3 and watched the movie with no update and no problem. It is so frustrating.

I bought my C5500 and Avatar at the same time. Downloaded the update to a flash drive and uploaded it to the player. Avatar played just fine after that. I'm having problems with it now though. Anytime I power off the player it ejects the tray. It doesn't matter if there is a disc in it or not, it cannot be powered off and keep the disc inside. Any ideas?

What FW version did you use? I have on and just updated it today (via the web) to the latest version and have no problem with the disc ejecting? Have you checked to see if there is a newer version?

Default Bad Standard DVD Quality

Hey Everyone,

I recently purchased a Samsung 55" LCD HDTV (LN55C630) and it came with the Samsung BD-C5500 bluray player. This player and tv plays bluray movies amazingly. Standard def dvd's however look terrible - they are rough and grainy almost to the point of being unwatchable. Also some dvds play the movie in a very small box that is cut off on the sides (which is to be expected) AND the top and bottom.

I have messed around with the settings of the BD-C5500, trying to set the quality manually to 480i (p?) and changing the resolution to 4:3 and turning progressive scan on manually, etc. I also updated to the latest firmware on the tv and bluray player through their internet. Nothing seems to help. Looking around on the internet I have not been able to find someone with similar problems with this unit.

I was hoping someone had a suggestion or advice?

Hi everyone, I'm new here and I figure somebody smarter than I might be able to help me out. I purchased the Samsung 40" screen with this player, then I tried to view jpeg photos from a cd I had burned, but the player doesn't read the disc.

Any thoughts? The genius at Best Buy suggested updating the firmware, which I havent done yet, but is that the only possible solution?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Default Awesome

Have had this player for two weeks now and it is awesome. I bought it from crutchfield with the 5.1 surround included. I have to say that the surround is awesome, picture quality is sweet. We have streamed many netflix playables and it plays perfectly. The only complaint that I have is that there is no way of adjusting the bass much. So you have to have a movie really loud in order to hear the bass properly. I recommend a powered subwoofer to add to the system. Other than that this is a great blu ray player and would rival other more expensive blu ray players.

Check your players manual, to make sure that the disc you are using can be played by your player. Some discs like cdrw discs cannot be played.

In order to have upscale quality make sure in your settings the mode is set to progressive and in the display settings 1080i. If you have a hd tv, your tv should support 1080i, If not 720p is also hd quality. My player upscales the dvds just fine. Some discs may look grainy it all depends on the quality of the movie the studio used to transfer the film to dvd.

Does anybody know if the Samsung C5500 blu ray player "ever experienced the 1080p/24 bug?" Such as the Denon 3800 had.

I think where it would drop 1 frame per 24 frames??? Or some sort of this?

I've been looking at the c5500 as an entry level player to replace my PS3. I dont care about any feature other than ideal PQ/AQ. Would this player be comparable to the PS3 in terms of blu-ray playback?

The main reason why I want to replace the PS3 is because of its loud fan.

Thumbs down

Thought I'd add my experiences with this player, as well as two other Samsung players.

I purchased the C5500 originally because I wanted to replace my fat PS3 with a quiet player (fat PS3 is very loud, especially during the hot months). On the C5500, audio would drop out randomly and a large horizontal blue band would flash across the screen. So, I returned the C5500 and got a C5900. Same exact issue.

After a few weeks, I exchanged the C5900 for the C6500. Well, the C6500 has an audio problem as well. Within the first 2 minutes of the first film I viewed on it, the audio skipped several times.

Sigh, all I wanted was a quiet player with flawless playback... Still looking for a player, but I will not be looking at Samsung that's for sure.
