He says he got a defective disc though, so it was not the player.
Oh, I live in CO, and one user there says the BB here got in their units. WTF? Last edited by Dr Kain; 06-15-2006 at 04:05 AM. |

Yet, I read as recently as yesterday, that Blu-ray wasn't going to ship anywhere until Fall on a forum. People often hear just what they want to. Not good that a disc had issues right away... Blu-ray manufacturing needs to be spot-on for the amount that the players cost and the competition being in place. Should be a fun holiday season! |

This is 10 days early. I have to wonder if these stores that broke the street date of the launch aren't going to be in some serious trouble for this...

Here is the most in-depth review I've seen of the Samsung, and it's not good:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...&&#post7850079 I would post it all, but the forum says my post is too long by 282 characters. |

Sony made a big mistake by not being the 1st one's to drop for BD.... Samsung has a horrible track record with DVD players....so the BD scenario should be no different IMO... |

What do you mean? Sony couldn't make a decent DVD player if their money depended on it. Samsung on the other hand, could make something that outlasted a Sony by 5 years.

I tend to agree - neither Sony nor Samsung have one of the best track records... Pioneer Elite and Panasonic though are two manufacturing names that continually sit near the top of the list for product build, design, and image quality.
I'm not terribly suprised by any of the reviews or info... This whole first generation product thing is very typical of the industry. The Internet, is doing things to debut products that has never been seen before. If this type of coverage had been out when the DCT-100 by RCA came out (first generation HD-DSS receiver) people would have been flipping out over the lousy build quality. I think MPEG2 is excellent - if you have the space. Single layer Blu-ray + MPEG2 isn't what I would consider good for the product at all. Dual layer? Sure - no issues in my mind on that. This furthers my opinion that the PS3 will be a good purchase later this year. I can't imagine the quality being worse than other first generation Blu-ray players and is way easier to justify to my wife. ![]() |

Samsung might be one of the worst name brands that make DVD players... I won't couple them with a GPX, Sylvania or a Memorex lol...but...they are notorious for glitchy players and I wouldn't spend a G on a Samsung BD player.... and for people who commented on the reviews in the link posted above...one person replied saying that he didn't think it was the player....basically saying they'll all look like that....... that's a short-sighted way to look at it...especially since there are plenty of regular DVD players that vary in quality.....even up-conversion DVD players vary between one another... I have 2 samsung upconversion DVD players in my house ![]() that's where the comparison should lie....Panasonic or Pioneer vs Toshiba... but since the Panasonic is cheaper....that should be the one to compare....not the one that is 3x the price of the Toshiba... |
