System used for review:
B&W 803D, B&W HTM2D, B&W SMSC NAD Master Series M15 (preamp) + M25 (7 channel amplifier) Optoma HD80 1080p projector Lissau 78" TAB-tension Projector screen Samsung BD-P1400 PREDATOR - GET TO DA CHOPPA...................... Video Quality: I am sorry to say, that I am a little disappointed with the picture quality on this Blu-ray edition of Predator. I really like the movie and I am under the impression that this is still a popular movie. I simply expected FOX to do a better job here. It has nothing to do with this being a BD-25 disc or the use of Mpeg2. Compression artifacts are generally not a problem. It lacks sharpness making some shots look flat and lacking in depth. Also the quality is inconsistent throughout the movie. Noise is generally not a problem, but in moments there too much of it, which can make the picture seem a little unclear. Fleshtones are largely accurate; at times they are little on the red side. I know it's and old movie, but I have seen better jobs done than this. It's still a pretty good upgrade from the DVD version, but I miss the real High-def feeling. ![]() ![]() Audio Quality: While the Video Quality may not be of the best, I am happy to report that listening to the audio quality from this Blu-ray edition alone makes it worth the buy. The music is rich an open, with the surrounds frequently coming alive with both music and gunfire. Do to the sound design envelopment is strong when you see things through the eyes of the Predator. Voices don't sound closed and compressed like many other old movies. Of course it lacks compared to modern sound tracks but still FOX did a really good job making this movie come alive on the audio side. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() They cost me $55 each but at least we don't use security stickers here in Denmark ![]() Last edited by Iron Man; 01-12-2008 at 06:39 AM. |
