Default Why HDDVDer's might think some things...

I really wanted to post this in the General Discussion forum, but this topic is forbidden there. This is not in defense of anyone, but it is a subjective observation from personal experience.

I use my BD-S1 at about a 10:1 ratio compared to my A20, so it has taken a while to come to this conclusion. In general, I think the A20 does a really fine job upconverting SDDVD's. However, I really have been of the impression that the PQ from HDDVD's was not up to par with the better BD's. This was driven home the other night, while watching "The Kingdom" on HDDVD (an excellent movie that you should all eagerly anticipate coming on BD someday) immediately followed by "Population 436" on SDDVD. I kept thinking, boy the PQ on P436 was very good, nearly as good as Kingdom. This may be a good reason why many of the HDDVD fans believed that upconverts were as good or nearly as good as full HD PQ. It's a combination of two things, subpar PQ on HDDVD (perhaps on purpose) combined with pretty good upconversion by the players.

Just a thought.
