Oh well ... $10.99 was an incredible price. If it seems to good to be true ... .

That's what I was afraid was going to happen, so I got an unopened Best Buy version off of Ebay for $18 with free shipping and cancelled my Best Buy order. It came in on Monday.

Why in the world would they not receive "more product?"

And it is not really crystal clear whether they have canceled your order, or whether you will simply be one of the last ones to get CK when the backorders finally come in.

I smell a manipulation or possibly a rat .....

Oh, and for Citizen Kane, there is no equivalent "alternative product."

BB likewise sent me that email, but the thing is I'd already canceled the order a few days prior and am a bit confused.

Thanks for the info. They cancelled me today too. It hasn't been available in Los Angeles. I think I saw a CK digibook 1 time in LA. I'm heading to Savannah, GA in a few days, maybe they will have it it stock.

They canceled my order, so I stopped in at a Best Buy on my way home from work and was able to score a copy for $10.99 + tax.

I'm sure at some point in the not distant future Citizen Kane will be sold in a single film package. I called Best Buy and got them to agree to price match the Digibook if it does. They gave me a confirmation number and I'm hanging onto it until the cows come home.

I got them to do this because when I ordered it, it didn't say backordered. It said available immediately. I'm holding them to it.

Possibly. I don't remember. It seems to me that making a relatively small number of "limited edition" sets of one of the most renowned films of all time -- especially when they would run out before Christmas -- would be shooting themselves in the foot, but they shoot themselves in the foot in other ways quite regularly.

The book has a 'Best Buy Exclusive' sticker with an asterisk that reads 'Exclusive for a limited time only'.

I don't believe anybody yet knows for certain whether that means the book itself is limited or whether the book will stay in print but will not always be a Best Buy exclusive.

How could they know their supply would run out? If they pressed a select number of copies, they would have no idea how many would sell. As far as internet orders, it was probably first ordered, first served.

They would know by their inventory tracking software. When you place an order, they should know if they have any more copies available or not.

The regular UCE is the typical big box of swag. The Amazon exclusive throws in a DVD of The Magnificent Ambersons along with the UCE. The Best Buy digibook is just a digibook with only the BD from the set and the DVD of "The Battle for Citizen Kane." It doesn't have the RKO 281 DVD, which is in the UCE.
