Anyone have a high powered HT in a small room?

I am in a 3 bedroom condo with a fairly large living room but by no means large enough in my taste for 7 speakers, etc. I dont want to piss off the neighbors next to me or below me with my thumping. I want to purchase a new onkyo 605 receiver and use my existing smaller speakers but was thinking it might be worth waiting til I have a larger living room (who knows how long considering the housing market BLOWS). Does anyone have a single family home/huge living room setup in an otherwise small space like a 1 bedroom apartment?
