Good tip; I spoke with other folks as well and no one seems to have this issue; so something must be corrupted on my install.

I am going to re-install tonight after I come back from work.

If you have unfinished WUs and don't wanna lose that work with the new version, run the client with the 10 minute auto-start, in the past, that bypassed the update.

this may have been answered. I'm part of the the blu crew here, but I was wondering what the points meant? How can I have 59 work units complete but have 1000 less point than someone with 10 less work units??

The points that a PS3 get range from 250 to 1500. The points depend on the WU that was assigned. Even if you set the mode to advanced it does not mean that you will get the 1500 pointers every time, and those take a day and a half to complete.

Points don't really matter actually. Lets not forget what we're all actually doing which is running calculations on how proteins fold in the nanosecond timescale. All for the sake of a better understanding how our body works, and the diseases that ail it. Sometimes I feel that people lose sight of that and just think about rank and score.

I agree with you. We're doing this for a good cause. I do think without a ranking system and whatnot, this craze about folding would not be what it is. We are all doing this for the right cause, but it's nice to know where you rank. Also, once we get somewhere along the line, it would be nice to see what we've been working on. Like what it looks like in the big picture.

I think turning charity into a competition is just silly,
the research is more valuable then who's is bigger.

Donating to be recognized is really a fault in human society
that I just don't think "we" barbaric humans are capable of
getting past.

Who's is bigger will probably define the rest of the existence
of mankind.

Working from my corner Chris.

it is what it is. If playing a sortof game to help others is harmful to society's goal of doing good just to do good then so be it. Most people are good in my experiences. If helping find cures for cancer can be fun too, why not?

I know what you're saying. I actually think it was brilliant on Stanford's part to include points and rank as competition fuels production. But I am just saying that we shouldn't lose sight of the main goal here. I am afraid some people might quit folding for the team because they feel we're never gonna break into the top 100 or beat [H]ardOCP or if they feel they don't get their fair shake of points.

Mine has never lost work in progress with an update. Worked fine this time too.

I happen to love the points and scoring aspect. If you don't care about that sort of stuff, no one's making you look at your score. But if you do, it's kind of fun to pretend that we're in a all out deathmatch for best folder ever. I certainly enjoy that aspect.

But then again, maybe I've just been playing too much Call of Duty 4 online.

barbaric as it is, I am switching all 6 PC cores I am running and the PS3 from AVSForums to the Blu-ray.com team

need to move it up...this team is running so many more users and everyone wants to be on a winning team (like choosing Blu over Dud)

I think you might get to our top 20, maybe even top 10 with that amount of hardware. Just about to step into the vaunted ranks of the top 10 myself!

WOOHOO!

You should have done this ages ago! AVS? C'mon?! Or did you just recently convert to blu?

Same here - my PS3 took the 1.31 update just fine without losing the in-progress WU.

the other ones didnt interrupt the WU either but it is an awesome update even if they only updated 1 part of the system but not having problems with dowloading work units and getting errors on them is a great update none the less. i lost a couple of work units in the past because of those stupid errors but now that it is improved i wont have to worry so much anymore about not getting my work unit

I completely agree. I know at the end of the day it is all just for a good cause, however if it wasn't for the score aspect of it, I wouldn't have done things like research how to tweak my boxes to maximize the points production (I was running vmware and linux before my interest in FAH took hold, but migrating my boxes to 64-bit linux was really driven by FAH), install new CPU and northbridge heatsink/fans to keep temperatures manageable, etc etc. Not exactly sure why this flipped the 'geek' switch in me to do all of this, however I've learned quite a bit from the experience.

It has also put me more in awe with the power and capability of the PS3 (even though sadly it isn't currently the most economical way to generate the most points).
