Question Incredibly newbish question about Blu-Ray.

So, my first post, and uhm.. Hi!

Yeah, I just got a Playstation 3 (Actually my Girlfriend bought it for me ^^) and I was wondering; you see, i have a rather old but still pretty decent 32'' 720p LCD Screen from Samsung.

And i wanted to test out my new found Blu-Ray option... so i was looking around to find the best movie to test this out on (not Planet Earth though) and i was thinking somewhere in the lines of 300 or Ratatouille or something, so i went to read up on some reviews, and i noticed this on highdefdigest.com's review of BD 300.
Quote:
Video Resolution/Codec

* 1080p/VC-1
* 1080i/480p/i/MPEG-2
And this on Ratatouille

Quote:
Video Resolution/Codec

* 1080p/AVC MPEG-4
So, my question is this... if i go out and buy one of these movies, and put then in, what resolution will they run on? as my TV can't do 1080p? and AVC MPEG-4 is DVD quality?

Many thanks!

If this has been answered before i am so sorry!
