does your Yammy read PCM on your receiver when playing a blu with the PS3 in decode mode? Do you have your PS3 set to linear PCM?

I am not familiar with Yamahas language, but it sounds as if surround decoder might be a matrixing mode that channels surround sound to the rear unused speakers, for instance if the movie was recorded in 5.1 but you have 6.1 or 7.1, you can get sound to the 6th & 7th speakers even though the movie doesn't support those extra speakers.

Straight may just be the listening mode for a movie recorded in 5.1 playing in 5.1.

Once again, I am not familiar with Yamaha lingo, but that is what it sounds like to me.

"Straight" may also be the same as "Pure Audio" on the Onks where no post-processing is applied. You may want to double-check the old manual.

On the RX-V663 when you select"straight mode" you are getting the the best possible sound without any processing at all...

ok thanks alot guys. I had been using surround decode but I guess I'll use staright from now on. I thought surround decoder would mean that it would automatically pick up whatever soundtrack i selected. Thanks again
