Uncompressed HD-SDI video streams in 1080p run at roughly 1.5 Billion bits per second. On BD, that video bit rate has to be squeezed to under 40 million bits per second. If the movie has to fit on a single layer BD-25 disc then it is going to be compressed quite a bit worse and yield even more inferior video quality. And that's what we would be stuck with if we had to fit two different framing versions of one movie on the same disc. It's a terrible compromise that should not be made on a high end video presentation format. |
