Single and Two Disc Versions - Blu-ray Forum

It appears that the blu ray release of 2012 will be available in a single disc extras free version and a two disc version that includes extras. I was hoping that this trend wouldn't hit blu ray for awhile if ever. In releasing two versions it helps no one as the single disc versions will cost what we are currently paying and the two disc versions will cost more. I'm sure many of you have noticed that currently two disc dvd versions often cost more than their blu ray counterpart. It's just another way for studios to get us to pay for something that we are currently getting for free. I wish everyone would wait until the price of the two disc version drops to a reasonable price point to purchase movies released in single and two disc versions so maybe the studios would quit taking advantage of people like this.

Yeah, this is unfortunate, but it's been going on with DVD for years. The single disc editions without extras will probably be more aimed for the rental market.

It will be interesting to see the price difference between the two editions.

Especially when you consider half these releases could have fit the same damn content on one disc its an absolute shame and offers a great excuse for retailers to rip off consumers.

All the bad practices you saw on dvd will eventually migrate to Blu-ray. The studios are increasingly aware of Blu-ray's status in the marketplace, and hoping to increase their profitability on these discs.

I wish all blu-ray movies were one disc. That was the whole point. They can fit the movie and the extras on one disc. Who cares about digital copy. The whole point of blu-ray is 1080p and HD soundtrack...

I think price will play a big part in which edition a customer picks up...
