My beef with sets of all kinds is that often only the set has a UPC number, so it makes it hard to sell the duds/flops. "Vengeance Trilogy" is an exception, because it is a slipcase with three movies, each in a blu-ray case, each of which has a UPC number, and the slipcase has yet another UPC. I don't want to unload any of the three; however, Criterion's BBS, for example, has several movies that I would like to unload, but the digibooks inside the slipcase don't have UPC numbers.
I did unload the whole Mel Brooks set, then bought the "Young Frankenstein" single. I will regret buying the Kubrick set, if any of the several movies that need a better transfer is ever released as a single with a better transfer. The Universal monsters are available as singles, region-free, from the UK, so that is what I bought. I say it is hard to sell something without a UPC, because i would be very wary of buying anything without one. Last edited by joie; 11-02-2012 at 01:10 PM. |

I too don't want to have to read people moaning, so please stop moaning in the thread.

So why are you still coming on here? You seem to be getting a perverse kick out of feeling superior to those who still want to spend their own money on a set you don't think is worthy of your own money. Basically you are trolling. |

You are only clogging up the thread with your constant moaning about how bad the set is. My advice, go start up a thread that discusses the problems of thist set, and link it here. Then you don't have to post here anymore, as you are not adding to the thread, but subtracting from it. |

So the standard is just a filmsy digipak? According to the pictures on Amazon it looked like one of those digibook/sleeve-thingies. That's kind of lame, but both kinds of packaging look equally inadequate.

The discs appear to be the same as those planned for the UK, but that's very common. I'm not certain of the logistics of it, other than the fact that we're also region B, but our disc label art here often has the UK/Irish/German ratings logos on it, even when the overall packaging is completely different from the UK set. But yes, the packaging here does seem very flimsy. I've held it in my hands, and even the outside box doesn't feel very sturdy. I'm a bit surprised they didn't go for a digistack, which is what often happens here with sets that have a large number of discs (for instance, the Star Wars set or the new Bond 50). I hate digistacks myself — just the sound of them sets my teeth on edge! ![]() |

Then you look at things like the Jurassic Park trilogy which has been out for a year and is now £10, less than a third of the price on release. A lot of the box sets drop ridiculously in price in the UK for some reason, to me this definitely seems like it could be one of them. |

I've just done exactly the same. This was by far my most eagerly awaited release of the year as well, but I'm not giving Universal any more money than I have to if this is the best they can do. I had high hopes after the Monsters collection, but I'll be waiting for a decent price drop in the New Year now.

Is the UK premium edition in the book with art cards actually limited and if so any word yet on numbers? Have it on order for £72 inc VAT/Delivery which works out roughly £5.14 a film in the set which ain't bad. It's been sold out on and off on Amazon which does indicate there is only going to be a limited run of them. Prefer the packaging to the standard edition and just wanted to know if I do cancel and hold out for a lower price point if it could sell out. Pretty much every other retailer is still listing both versions for sale so might just be Amazon selling through their first allocation of stock. The going price for the premium appears to be around £100 at the moment so falling to below £70 would probably take 6 months or more if it doesn't sell out.
Considering keeping the order and seeing if they are numbered but it will probably cost a bit to return due to it's size. |

Buzz if you got the book edition for £72 and you really want the swag then i wouldn't cancel. I don't see it coming down that much in price before it sells out. If you would be happy with the standard edition then suggest you cancel and wait for it to drop in price.
