Apparently the story is already well underway, and Lucas and Kennedy were already meeting with writers and directors for the the film. So they may be farther along then we realize. They have three years. That's plenty of time.

Just don't use the guy from Prometheus (Damon Lindelof). Can you imagine what Star Wars would be like if he was allowed to take over

Well I was looking at the fact that it took approx 3 years for each prequel to be made and we are already closing out 2012. I hope you're right though.

Yeah, I think I read that it's been seriously underway since June. Plus it's not like they're starting from scratch.

It's an expansion of an existing universe where there's already a plot treatment and a ton of notes available.

As we were just talking about Harrison Ford and his seemingly disdain for anything Star Wars ... Here's an interesting bit of news. It seems he had a change of heart (according to a "source close to the actor")

http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-...185829069.html

Quote:
For all those who hope the upcoming "Star Wars" movies are more "original trilogy" than "prequels" -- there is hope: Harrison Ford, who played the scruffy-looking nerferder Han Solo in the original films, will consider reprising his role, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The magazine spoke to a "highly placed source," who said, "Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he's upbeat about it." The mystery source "close to the just-announced 'Star Wars' sequel" went on to explain that Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) are equally enthusiastic about the possibilities.
It's been 29 years since Ford last played the lovable scoundrel. According to legend, the actor very much wanted his character to be killed off in "Return of the Jedi." However, George Lucas ixnayed the idea. In a 2010 interview with ABC News, Ford said, "I thought he should have died in the last one to give it some bottom... George didn't think there was any future in dead Han toys."

As near as we can tell, no script has been written and no director picked for the untitled Episode 7. According to Dale Pollack, who wrote a biography of Lucas and saw early treatments for Episodes 7, 8, and 9 several years ago, the treatments centered around Skywalker in his 30s or early 40s. "It was originally a 12-part saga," Pollock told the Wrap. "The three most exciting stories were 7, 8, and 9. They had propulsive action, really interesting new worlds, new characters. I remember thinking, 'I want to see these three movies.'"
Ford's publicist had no comment on EW's report. However, if the possibility of Solo making a return in "Episode 7" has you nerding out at light speed, check out Full Scale Falcon. The creators are building a full size replica of the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy. No, it won't actually fly but that doesn't make it any less awesome.

That series was actually made without his involvement. The only thing he too credit for was the character's creation from an earlier short.

And speaking of Brad Bird...

Everyone in that game has much stronger Force powers than depicted in the movie, not just Starkiller.
[Show spoiler] And Starkiller did get his ass kicked by the Emperor in both endings
Either way those kinds of extreme powers + darkness I didn't like how short TFUII was but I enjoyed it

Nope. Post production is the longest part. Filming is the shortest, because it's the most expensive. Once they get a script, then they can budget and do all the other things fairly quickly.

I was feeling the same way, but I believe they probably have a pretty strong treatment from Lucas meaning they just need to find some writers to get a decent script(s) out of it. So the next 6-8 months will probably be fleshing that out. Also film making has evolved exponentially since even the first prequel film. There most likely will not be any film involved in making these movies. It will be shot all in digital making like the last two entries making post production easier. I would guess that it goes before the cameras late next year or early 2014 giving them a good year and change to do post production.

What I don't understand is that if Ford hated Han Solo so much, why is he all of a sudden enthusiastic about returning to Star Wars? Does everything think that since 2010 he has changed his mind? Because if he seriously didn't like the character as much as we are suppose to believe then surely he wouldn't contemplate coming back.

He didn't hate Han Solo, he thought Star Wars was mindless junk. He wanted to be taken seriously as an actor.

Why does he want to return?

He said that he didn't find the character Han Solo interesting, maybe hate is a strong word but still....

I can understand that money would be tempting, but if Ford didn't like the character or Star Wars in general as much as he once claimed then "being happy to return for episode 7" regardless of the payment still doesn't make a lot of sense.

I'm starting to think that ever since 2010 his perception has changed a little. Maybe its because of the lack of Lucus?

No, actors have egos, and Ford hasn't had a hit in a while, and he'll take the limelight where he can get it. He's always said that he viewed SW as a path to do other work. Having a hit leading to more work is what he's after, and he's still miffed over how Cowboys and Aliens turned out. So sure he's game for SWVII, providing he actually has something to do in Episode VII other than yell at Chewbacca and stand around like a potted plant. Maybe he can actually die in the next one, like Obi-Wan...

Yeah but surely integrity, pride and reputation come into play even despite the tempting large sums of cash and the potential to star in a box office smash hit which are values Ford would take seriously if he disliked Han so much. For what its worth, Ford has also gone on record on saying that he doesn't feel at his age that he should be leading in staring roles anymore.

There is speculation that he'll only do EP 7 if they kill off Han which is something Ford has wanted ever since ESB. It explains his flat lifeless performance in ROTJ too.

You're talking about a guy who ripped the head off a Smurf on live TV and castigated his audience, asking them "Why didn't you come?" when Cowboys and Aliens tanked.

Han won't be a starring role. They have to establish a new set of films.

I don't think he was flat or lifeless at all, he just had nothing to do once he was saved, and had to endure those goofy "just hold me" scenes with Leia.

Really? Do you have a video of this?

I know that, I'm just saying that I can't see him using episode 7 as a platform to get more future staring roles because he has declared that he is no longer interested in them anymore. So this tells me that its a combination of a change of heart of his perception for Han and of course the big fat paycheck.

To be fair Fisher was also pretty bad and disinterested, at least that's the impression I got. Clearly it had a lot to do with the uninspiring writing and direction as well which didn't help. But that's just me.

Conan's YouTube lawyers have only allowed snippets from the interview to remain on line...the head-ripping part is everywhere..."Why didn't you come?" is cut.
