Can someone explain to me why The Dark Knight Rises was not nominated for Best Visual Effects?

Art is subjective.

Some of you care wayyyy too much about who the Oscars pick/don't pick. Read above, art is subjective. If you NEED the approval of a third party to validate you own opinions, you have a very weak mind in the first place. Does it really matter what a group of old men think is the "best"?

(Disclaimer: I believe the Oscars as an organization are important, but I could care less who gets nominated. But thats another topic for another day.)

How many years have the Oscars been happening? And STILL there are people who b**** and moan about how unfair everything is.

There is ZERO reason to be upset about today, if you are you need to take a deep breath, walk away from your computer and go get some fresh air. Spend time with your family, take a walk and forget about who the Academy decides to reward.

Your opinion has to hold the most value to you, and at the end of the day, isn't that all that maters? There is nothing more embarrassing about as group of so called "film enthusiasts" who fail to understand this most basic concept.

Well, Ben Affleck just won Best Director at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards for Argo.

Talk about some serious irony, considering he was snubbed by the Academy earlier this morning.

If the film is upsetting you that badly (as it obviously is, as you cannot stop yourself from talking about it) you should probably just stay away from it.

More importantly, if it is as bad as you suggest, why are you keeping the conversation going? Seems toxic to drown yourself in negativity.

I LOVE this!

Watch how everybody is so captivated by Tarantino. Poor Gus Van Sant seems like the odd duck here, but it was cool to see him with Affleck.

David O Russell seems annoyed with Quentin.

This is now the ninth year in a row that I won't be watching. I'm not surprised with the choices, just sad that they continue to linger with the films they continually choose.

What films would you have chosen? Besides stuff like Dark Knight Rises and Avengers which i see people say should have been nominated.

This was a good watch. Things always get way more interesting when Tarantino is talking though.

I laughed my ass off when Tarantino didn't get what David O Russell meant by "so what 'candy' do you put on your dvd?"

He did kind of admit that Death Proof was his worst.

And did I hear Ben right? Did he say he didn't like Gone Baby Gone?

I watched the video a month or two ago, and don't remember any shocking confessions from Ben Affleck about Gone Baby Gone.

My favorite moment from the chat comes at the beginning where David O. Russell makes a self-effacing joke, referring to his tantrums on sets. Tarantino responds by saying how no one could respect a director who would do stuff like that (possibly unaware or forgetting about Russell's history). They cut to Russell who looks like he's about to murder Tarantino.

All the prestigious award shows ( The Academy, and Grammy Awards) are political! I haven't watched The Academy Awards since Glenn Close lost for Best Actress for Fatal Attraction to Cher, who had won for Moonstruck in 1987. Cher just walked through that movie, and I don't how she won an Oscar for Moonstruck, instead of Glenn Close for Fatal Attraction.

Watched that a few weeks ago, it's pretty fun and interesting.

But Quentin Tarantino is being half a c**t in the video, calling his scrips great literature and what not. It doesn't take a lot to be a bit more modest.

Ben Affleck is probably the most interesting being such a young dude with all these old geezers. David O Russell is probably equally interesting. Tom Hooper seems typically pompous, I would of liked to hear more from Ang Lee, since he was the one working with the biggest budget and 3D. And Gus Van Sant might as well be non-existent through that video.

This is just like '98 when Saving Private Ryan went up against Mirimax's Shakespeare in Love and lost best picture
