I agree it requires disclaimers before viewing:
"WARNING: The whole point of the movie was to kill off the entire ensemble cast, especially the expensive actors, because it was taking them longer and more money to contract Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman and Ian McKellen to be in the same movie, and they wanted to get to those cheap-new-character and solo spinoffs as soon as possible."

With this realization out of the way, I rather liked it--
That's only because I'd thought X2 was a bit too Bryan-Singer-gay...A nice social "tease" in X1, but "Bobby's coming-out" in #2 fairly rubbed the audiences' face in it.
The franchise needed a little changeup breath of hetero, just for variety.

And taking it as Brett Ratner "Can anyone ELSE direct it?" audition, um, think he passed:
There's a lot more action and less Pride-parading--and darnit, Kelsey Grammer IS Beast, I didn't think he could do it! ...If it weren't for the movie's primary Job-One of rushing the characters to their final write-offs as quickly as possible, before we've even had time to blink.
Still, it's a pretty good glimpse at What Could've Been.
