Default Hardware components

I'm an student of industrial design doing a project on Blu-Ray players and need to get a good feel for the physical composition and the internal layout. Since old BD-players for dissection are "pretty" hard to come by, I'm wondering if the hardware components in a BD-player are comparable to that of a DVD player.
I guess the thing that would differ the most is the laser, but is the difference (in size, voltage, cooling requirements, etc.) substantial?
Any other major differences?
