the excites were listed as 4 ohm speakers but they never really dropped below 5, and if so i think it was like 4.8, so they really were more of a 6 ohm speaker. however they were always much better with better amplification.

That makes sense. I also like the new looks and the driver . I have a feeling with Dynaudios track record they didn't drop the ball and its going to be a great speaker . They don't seem to be the type of company that lets the public test out speakers . I'm sure they did some in depth research and testing before they released the new excites .

This is 3db less efficient than a Mani 2 Signature, complete non sense to me but ok.

I'm not saying one will need a big power amp to get adequate sound out of them but I don't think an average avr will come close to getting the best out of them. A high end avr would be a minimum I would say, I just think an average avr's power supply would struggle with 5 or 7 speakers of this efficiency hooked up. The truth is probably somewhere in between what both of us are saying anyway as we're just both guessing at this point.

I was a little surprised with the x38, they have new woofers, and I wonder if they have the 3" VCs or not. if they do, then the mid-bass should be better developed over the x36s. Also the description says a new mid-range, so that makes for an interesting change. might make for a really good speaker. the center channel is a little taller, wondering if it has larger woofers, perhaps 5", but with the lower sensitivity, not sure id want it anyways. i was surprised by the overall low sensitivity of all the speakers. The average receiver pushing an 8 ohm load isnt going to get it done, very well.

they look fairly similar to the focus, which is interesting. I like the look, better veneer then what was on the older excites. nice outriggers for the towers too.
Visually the speakers have improved, wasn't the biggest fan of the grey baffle on the Excites, not exactly a huge fan of the Contour's look either to be honest. The sound is more important than the looks for me anyway.

Do you really think that small of a change in woofer size would really make that much of a difference?

An AVR360 would work just fine in my opinion, an Anthem would work as long as you drive only 5 channels, true you need more then just an entry level AVR but they are Dynaudio speaker after all.

i dont think, hope, the average person that is seeking out dynaudio speakers are going for the onkyo 607, pioneer 1021.... im sure they are up in the onkyo 8xx, denon 33xx, or marantz 6xxx level, at minimum. or they are into the anthem, arcam, nad type receivers, or full on pre-pros.

not really, was hoping the drivers would be that of the dm2/6s or x14s 5.5" size, figured it might give a little more umph to the center. cause the 2/6s can pack a punch to be honest. i was watching the dark knight rises and wow... there were some moments that the amount of room filling bass that was coming out into the listening area even made the wife look around and she said, no wonder you wanted the surrounds. i was starting to think that surrounds really didnt matter, but now i know they can! so my hope was that perhaps a center with 5.5" drivers might be worth checking into, but at that sensitivity, it would have to be a major difference and need an amp to really keep up with the focus, imo. not sure id go for it tho... we'll see. maybe i can bring one home to demo. it would be nice to have a more similar looking setup tho.

I've been telling you what a good set of surrounds can do for long time! You do reach the point of diminishing returns faster with surrounds though, the DM's are perfect for you. I'd shoot for the Focus center if possible, the 210C is a sweet center, I enjoyed the 200C quite a bit.

yeah... i was hoping for a miracle thinking that perhaps dyn would build a real excite center with similar 86-87 db and 5.5" woofers that would get 45hz or so... similar size to the focus, but I guess i just have to go with the focus center at some point. Ill have to get an amp before that happens tho. maybe i can find one used for $600

at the begining of tdkr, when that second plane comes to get bain, it comes in from the back, and the bass was great. sounded like a prop coming up behind us, and the wife kinda moved her head to keep from getting hit... it was perfect.

That is an awesome scene, I love the drums.

Recently the best moment I've had where I was really happy I've got a great pair of surrounds was watching Rise of the Guardians with the kids. The Boogie man is talking but can't been seen on the screen and the voice is panning all around the room, the 110's just nailed it!

It would have been nice for you if the new Excite center was more along the lines of what your looking for. The 200C would be good if you can find one in Rosewood, although the finish's are probably won't match exactly. The 210C is probably the one for you.

I mean who in the right mind would pay for Dynaudio speaker and drive them with a 607? they look at an avr in the 1K + range.

You'd be surprised, I've read of some guys using some pretty crappy amps driving Dyn's in the AVS thread. Those guys are the exception rather than the rule though.

In reference to some some comments about why some people run less than expected/required/recommended amps, maybe it's simply a matter of not being able to upgrade all at once.

I think that's perfectly understandable, u ran my X16s on my Sony for a few months, but I always knew I'd have to upgrade soon.

I know my Genesis' would love some extra power, but it isn't in the cards right now. Damn this hobby is expensive!

Absolutely. I wouldn't have what I have if it weren't for the used market. As long as you do your homework, it's a good road to travel.
