The guy who did that documentary is James Rolfe: aka The Angry Video Game Nerd. He is a huge Rocky fan. He made this video back in 2006 (the video I'm posting IS NOT his original upload) and I thought it was done so well that I thought it was an actual music video. Granted I hadn't heard of "the nerd" yet. This is, IMO, not only one of the best Rocky/Stallone tributes ever made, but also one of the best music videos ever made.

In 2002, director John G. Avildsen released a work-print version of the film online, under the title "Rocky V: Director's Cut". In this version, the opening credits are completely different, with different music. Additionally, the music throughout the film is decidedly different then that used in the final version of the film; in particular, there is a lot more Bill Conti music rather than the songs used in the theatrical cut (although Michael Bolton's "When I'm Back On My Feet Again" plays in this cut when Rocky visits Mighty Mick's).

Several scenes are edited differently in the Director's Cut, and often with different dialogue. There are also a number of deleted scenes in the film, including a scene of Rocky getting VERY drunk at the bar prior to visiting Mighty Mick's Boxing, and a scene where Rocky meets Marie from Rocky (1976) (played by the same actress) to find that she is a prostitute and has just become homeless. Additionally, the Director's Cut has a completely different edit of the street fight, with new music, and also includes the amazing Mickey hallucination scene.

Much better version by a long shot.....
yep I'm aware of the Director's Cut in work print form and all its changes and modifications. I only wish it was available in half way acceptable quality because the version on YouTube is in very poor condition. Hell I'd take VHS-level quality if it meant it was watchable which the current work print in its current state really isn't IMO. Anyway it does sound like a sizeable improvement (and this is coming from a from a fan of the wide spread theatrical cut.) Its wishful thinking though to think that Rocky V regardless if its the Director's Cut, the Theatrical Cut or both will ever attract anywhere near the same attention for a remastered Blu as the orignal is soon getting.

I wish that they would release a decent looking copy of the director's cut of Rocky V.

Interested to see the specs on this one. Haven't made the jump to blu on the Rocky series yet.

Rocky 4 has always been one of my favourites. Better than 3 and 5 for me. Was so disappointed with #5, glad they did Rocky Balboa to finish the series off.

Agreed. Anytime I hear someone say they don't watch 5 AND 6, I'm convinced they've never actually watched it. It's almost sacrilege to lump 6 with 5.

If the remastered release of Rocky is a big step up, then I'll get it and swap out the original disc in the collection. I got the collection for cheap like a lot of people, so I'm fine with having to do that if it comes to that.

Not much, but here's the confirmation of a US blu-ray release by Fox's rep:

No word on exact release date yet, but it's coming next year (presumably Q1).

Same here, if they are truly doing a 4k remaster, hopefully it will be on the magnitude in PQ differences we saw with The Terminator.

Awesome news if it's indeed coming next year. Hopefully there will be a wave of other strong works in need of 4k to 1080p treatment coming next year as well. If anything, it would give studios the chance to also ready the movie for the eventual 4k release down the line.

If you ask me, there should be a sticky thread where people could ask Akijama to look for news of a specific movie they're anticipating.

I caught Rocky on cable the other night and noticed that the film still has that red push in the color timing. Assuming my cable channel is using the current blu-ray release, I'm hoping this next one fixes that and gives the movie it's original color.

If you really want to get rich charge a sliding scale. The first time a question is asked the answer is free. Charge the second person to ask the exact same question two buck, the fifth person - five bucks, the tenth person - ten bucks and so forth.

You'll be doing Scrooge McDuck diving board tricks in no time
