Haha it's not too bad, blind bought a lot of criterion a and never had any regrets, plus it know I can resell for profit, or of not at least get my money back if I sell same price.

I always get an idea into my head and feel co pulsed to follow through and this purchase was one of them haha

Just need to find a replacement case to keep it protected, emailed criterion to see if they still stock it.

On American Ebay it's around $280 lol

That's $200 here.

£116 is probably dinner for two over there.

(and it's probably a cold, bland, mushy dinner for two on top of it)

It may have current listings for that much, but it regularly sells for less than $100:

On the subject of The Man Who Fell to Earth, I thought it was one of the weakest Criterion films I have seen. The movie itself wasn't very good and the PQ wasn't as impressive as other releases.

(Apparently if I dislike or am disappointed in a Criterion title it will go out of print and be worth a lot: The Third Man, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Last Year at Marienbad). I should buy the ones I was disappointed in, set them aside, and I'll make a good profit later on.) Now to wait for the OOP announcement on The Great Beauty. Kidding.

Yah heard it focuses on style and imagery over the plot, which is a shame but doesn't bother me really, it beats Armagedan though lol

I love last year! And great beauty I'd incredible! How dare you lol kidding, we all like different films ^^

The Vanishing?

Yes, please!

Now they just need to knock The Ascent off my wishlist...

And that is the beauty of film. Someone mentioned Blade Runner, I think it is a utter pile of ****, my friends love it.

Off to try the new Jarmusch film tomorrow. Not seen any of his Criterion releases but I did enjoy Broken Flowers. Before that I will watch Like Father, Like Son, Hirokazu Koreeda needs to be in the Criterion collection.

I had a lukewarm reaction to Robert Altman's Nashville, but it's a favorite of many people here.
I rated four stars to the Blu-ray in my User Review, because I decided after watching the extras that Criterion really made a great case for this movie, but it's not one that I'll watch dozens of times for fun, like I have with other titles.

It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round.

And what a boring place it would be if we all agreed

The Extras are what make Criterion. Like you say, they can add a dimension to the overall experience of watching a certain film which gives you an appreciation you may not have from the film alone.

I think that The Vanishing is the best Hitchcock film that Hitchcock never made. It's a disturbing film in many ways, but I was not depressed after the credits rolled after my first viewing. In fact, I was quite adrenalized, because I loved how the story came together with such clockwork precision. I'm always happy when I see a movie where everything comes together without a misstep.

I hope that they keep the original cover art, because I love the subtle unease that it generates. I'm sure that they'll come up with something creative if they give it an overhaul, though.

I would love to see Criterion release more films from Kore-eda and Lee Chang-dong. Both their CC releases are excellent.

I can't remember how I found The Vanishing either but oddly enough I *think* I might have stumbled across it in the 'foreign/indie/classic' ghetto at a Blockbuster or a Hollywood Video or the like.

I order from them once or twice a year and have done for years…they're legit. They also have (or had, anyway) a points program kind of like Criterion's loyalty program where you earn a certain discount after spending so much.

I was still in the UK when I watched it and hired the DVD from Lovefilm (home dvd rental service from Amazon) It would have either been suggested to me by them based on previous films or I found it during a search. Whichever way I found it, I'm sure glad I did

I had a look today when the site was mentioned. They have a few Criterions at 50% off. I added a few to my cart and then added the postage to Canada. It came out only $3 more than what it would cost during the B&N sale. I've hung back though, spent $100 last week at Deep Discount, and 10 minutes ago I got an email from DVD Planet letting me know I did not complete my purchase and giving me $5 off I'll sleep on the purchase and decide tomorrow.

I did see their loyalty program, 1 point per $1 spent, 200 points gives you $5 so it is not much of a program, especially when compared to Criterion which is 10% (1 point per $1, 500 points giving you $50)
