Uhhh noooo! That's not what I am suggesting either but we can dead the issue it's really not that important. I am sure Serkis will do well for what they have in mind.

I wasn't very interested in this.

Then I heard von Sydow's in it.

Now I'm interested.

As a huge fan of all things Star Wars, the EU not being considered canon is not that big of a deal to me. Timothy Zahn had a long facebook post about his opinions on the whole issue

https://www.facebook.com/TimothyZahn...?stream_ref=10

If he is not freaking out about it, then neither am i.

Will Andy Serkis say "precious" in the movie?

Pretty much summed up my thoughts. The fan reactions are absolutely crazy in the comments though!

"The money I spent that made this franchise appeal to disney now means nothing!"

No. Merchandising from a two year period of just toys and Legos around the release of Revenge of the Sith likely made about as much money as the entire run of the EU.

If anything, toy sales made the franchise interesting. Not books.

Not to mention, all the books presaging RotJ's end are still canon unless other wise dictated.

It's been said before, but even the damn prequels aren't canon with the originals.

He'll make a cameo in it with some Colt 45.

The EU fan stuff is ridiculous. I read a lot of those books and comics, as I'm a pretty big Star Wars fan. That being said, it was already understood from the beginning that the EU was fan-created. There was even an introduction to the Dark Empire graphic novel where the writer stated that all of their stories may one day be "erased" if a new sequel trilogy was ever to be made.

And Lucas didn't even pay attention to the EU anyway when creating the prequel trilogy or the Clone Wars series. The origin of Boba Fett was completely contradicted in Attack of the Clones, and the Clone Wars cartoon series completely screwed up the timeline of Dark Horse's Clone Wars comic books in the "Star Wars: Republic" series.

And that's fine. You can just look at it as an alternate series of events and continue to enjoy them that way. That even fixes the Clone Wars thing with the comics-- one version is the comics, the other is the animated series.

But there was NO WAY the writers of the films were going to have to shoehorn in: Clone Palpatines, Chewbacca's death (and thus not being in the film), one of Han and Leia's kids turning evil, etc. Can you imagine having to exposition all that crap into Episode VII? There's no way.

Sorry, I'd rather have a good new film with the original cast. But that's just me. And probably most people with common sense.

I just have issues with the insistence that the EU is what has to be considered the "alternate series of events".

Seems to me that's up to the individual.

Why do people still think that Lando being excluded from Episode VII means he won't be in the trilogy at all? He wasn't in Episode IV. I still think he'll appear in Episode VIII with an extended cameo at least.

Eh, I wouldn't say he's not in it. He very well may be. It might just be a small role, with a bigger one later on. They still have cast member to hire still, so it wasn't a complete table read.

To be fair, Lucas didn't even pay attention to his own films while making the prequels.

Exactly.

If you've read comics for any extended period, you should be used to this as well. You have to hit the "reset" button from time to time.

You want what YOU want. Everyone wants their specific needs met. Why not just try to accept it and enjoy it. Having a preconceived bias will only ruin it more.
