The installed player base for the PS3 is just too small right now for any company to develop a Japanese styled RPG for it. It's apparent that traditional RPGs are moving toward the Nintendo DS with its lower development costs and huge installed base worldwide. RPGs are a very niche game genre outside of the heavyweight titles like Final Fantasy.

Consoles with less than 13 million units sold have had RPGs made for them; and that was what the PS3 had 2 1/2 months ago. MGS4 will be a big boost as well.

There will be plentiful JRPGs on the PS3 soon enough. NIS is on board; Square has a couple coming, and I'd be very surprised if major RPG sequels to PS2 games end up elsewhere.
