That is all the more reason to believe everything being said - JJ will lie to the fans right up until the the moment the film is released so why believe anything he says before then?
He hasn't said anything other than that he wants to give the OT characters a "proper send-off".

Honestly, I do think a lot of this is going to happen as it is just the kind of thing that Disney/JJ think will wow/fool the audience - "they will never see this one coming".
Disney's not big into pissing people off. Nor is LucasFilm. They're into the "we make you happy, you give us money" business. Episode VII has to be the BEDROCK of all the films that follow, it can't be "Luke turns into an Evil Cyborg, kills Han Solo, the movie sends everyone out conflicted and crying -- please come see our next five movies". That makes no logical sense.

Send off implies we won't see them anymore.

To be honest, in the case of C3P0 and R2D2 especially, I'm more than cool with that.

C-3PO and R2-D2 the only characters that have to survive every film. That's the whole point of their presence in the films.

Actually, Luke turning into a cyborg (but not killing Solo) does make some sense, but only if Luke is going to be in another film.

If you went to see VII and Luke turned into a villain as the cliffhanger end of the film, wouldn't you be very inclined to go see VIII? That's what Disney wants.

What wouldn't make sense and would piss the fans off is if Luke turns to the dark side, is killed and that's the end of the film.

I know, and I'm tired of it. Plus, with every new film R2 "discovers" a new power/ability/appendage that would have been EXTREMELY helpful in any of the other films that he was in yet mysteriously was not present.

I suspect that if they keep him around by the end of this new trilogy, he'll look like this:

I agree, although that was more a case of Lucas wanting Artoo to do some cool shit, continuity be damned (which sums up his whole approach to the prequels, really). I would hope that JJ and Co. have more respect for the character than that, although if they DO add any new gizmos to Artoo then at least we won't have to worry about them not being mentioned/used in three pre-existing "later" movies.

Oh, Luke can die and still be in other films. That's been established ever since Empire Strikes Back. Luke turning to the Dark Side, however...that's a whole different thing. I've been following the tweets of these folks running the rumor gins...one of them tweeted they're surprised by how much the film is leaking, how they've never seen a film this big leaking so much.

Yeah...that's certainly "surprising", isn't it? So you can either believe one of the most high-profile films is recent memory is leaking like a sieve -- a film still in principal photography -- or that the rumor mills are being played for suckers by a JJ Abrams misdirection campaign.

Christ! R2 has been running on the same OS for several decades now. I think the new iPhone can do more that he can, at this point.

It would be a final straw for me, and I'd have to wash my hands of the saga and just wait for the Blu-Rays of the unaltered OT and call it a day.

R2 tried to upgrade to OS 8, but then his cell phone crashed.

I don't think they'd kill any major characters. If they did, they'd ruin the series for the fans coming to see it. Moving to new 'younger jedi' as the new core group is ok, but if they dare kill off a beloved OT character, they might lose half their audience. It doesn't make much business sense (even if Harrison Ford wanted to be killed off in the original series, doesn't mean he does now). Hope most of the the rumors are just that; rumors.

I dont see how that would ruin the series. If anything just having them in VII is a great "passing of the tourch". This probably isn't going to be the Han, Luke and Leia show anymore. Their will be new main characters to continue into the future.

Actually, the Khan rumors started as soon as the sequel was announced. I think when it was when they said they wanted to cast Benicio Del Toro for the film that the first rumor started and it never stopped. But point is JJ lied right up until the film was released, literally until the first screenings. There is always talk when a movie is getting made about what the story will be but in JJ's case, we have already had at least 1 case where him saying "nope, not true" turned out to be totally false. Considering we are hearing how mad he is about leaks and that staff has been warned, it makes me think some of those leaks we are hearing are right on the money. Maybe some aspects are going to be different but the core is accurate.

Gentlemen, I don't care if Luke kills Leia while Han's out at work and then sends her head to him in a box, I'm still jazzed that we're getting new Star Wars and I will be geeking out like CRAZY when that title appears and the music hits (though some douchebag next to me will probably be grumbling that it's not the same without the Fox logo).

No, Khan SPECULATION started before the film went into production. And yeah, when Del Toro was announced, it threw logs on the SPECULATION fire. You guys have attached yourselves like flukeworms to these rumor sites and are believing and glomming on to everything they say.

"Considering we are hearing how mad he is about leaks "...Oh, please, Sir...direct me to the information you have that says JJ is mad about SW7 leaks. Or are you talking about his joking, winking tweet SW7 set photos saying he wished the film would stop leaking? You don't see the sense of humor there?

Oh, one last thing -- staff doesn't have to be warned -- contracts include severe non disclosure clauses, for everyone...you'd have to be a @#$%ing idiot to try and leak that shoot.

That would have been a fitting send off if they left it alone. But they went back for the Indy 4 project.

The writer of the new films saying he wants to give a fitting send off seems to me that he'll give them it, and we won't see them anymore.

I highly doubt Luke turns evil.

Are they basing any of this off of the continuation novels? Because Luke becomes like the galaxy's pillar of goodness.
