Default no xmb after 2.40!

this was probably posted somewhere, but they took the ps3 2.40 update away for now, because some reports of no xmb after the update! it was a limited number of cases, mine still has it! anyone have that issue? It doesnt make sense as to why only some of them.

Try to set your PS3 out put to Pan & Scan in 4x3 mode.

I 'd buy three or more(Trust me ....you will need them later) since you pay for shipping.

If the TV is widescreen, wouldn't setting it to 4:3 make the PS3 think there is only a 4:3 tv (unless you meant to switch back and forth)? and then not send out enhanced for 16:9? KiraKira, what kind of tv do you have (aspect ratio) and where was your PS3 set before when it was cutting the sides? I think I have mine on automatic (my tv is 16:9). Depends if you are connected using HDMI too, if so the PS3 can automatically detect the tv type through HDMI so the "automatic" setting would work like it does on mine. I would try different settings and use a 4:3 and a 16:9 enhanced disc to test the waters.

How much of the sides of a 4:3 image are being cut off?

Default PS3 with Samsung LN40A550 HDMI

I got it and I like it. Just watched my first Blu-Ray disk, Underworld Evolution. However, during the FBI warnings and the stuff that plays before the disk advances to the title menu, I get a "Searching For Signal" on the screen of my tele. I have a Samsung LN40A550.

Otherwise everything was amazing! I was blown away by the improvement over DVD. But does the searching for signal message indicate a problem, or is it just dropping out until the next track? Thanks

It's normal. It's caused by the PS3 reading separate video files linked together by a "play all" command. So after one file is read, the PS3 outputs an "end of video" signal" before reading the following file.

I have a widescreen tv and I'm connected using HDMI. I think I have my PS3 set on automatic too. Not much of the image is being cut off really, but enough to annoy me. I'll try to take pictures.

.

Remote Question:

Why does the PS3 Remote have the fast forward speeds of 1.5x, 10x, 30x, and then 120x?

Why isn't there like an 60x or 80x to fill in the gap from slower to superfast?

One thing I've just noticed, that I don't think ever happened before I updated my PS3 to firmware 2.41 is fantastic resume functionality.

I was watching Torchwood, where it plays as one long continuous movie through the episodes on each disc. I stopped it halfway through, and removed the disc. Then I watched a different movie. Then I re-inserted the Torchwood disc, and it automatically resumed from where I had previously stopped it!

Is this a new PS3 feature, or is it a feature of the Torchwood disc?

Yes, it's new. Works with DVD and Blu-rays. (Blu-rays with java menus/games don't work with this function - all others do.)

Do you know how many discs it can remember resume points for?

The resume data is kept in the HDD and it is not that big. So even if you have 500KB left in your HDD of the PS3, that's still a lot.

I noticed this doesn't work with all discs or I'm not doing it right. I usually turn the system off while it is still playing and it resumes the best. If I pause or stop it and then turn the system off it usually starts all over again.

Is their a right way to do this or just not all discs do it?

I believe you have to stop first, and then it will work.

You are right I think. I guess I should just make a book mark for Java discs.

Got a few problems.

1.) Have a PS3 and GTA 4, it has a wireless remote. It's worked fine for months, but now it says, "Please reconnect controller" and it will play, but as soon as I un-connect it, it doesn't play anymore.

What's wrong?

2.) I have a Comcast HD cable box, with a 52" Samsung LCD tv and a crappy Funai SV2000 dvd recorder from Walmart. I have two problems:

a. When I turn on the DVD recorder to get ready to record the picture is grainy and worse (it was the same on my 32" old tv and my old non-HD Comcast box. I have been connecting the coaxil from the cable box to the SV2000 and then the three colored (red, white, yellow) from the SV2000 to the TV. What's wrong, why is it grainy?

b. Now when I connect my dvd recorder to my tv and try to record it shows the same grainy, less quality tv picture, but there is no sound. (Yet, when I put a dvd in it plays with sound, so the cables must be good. I've tried 3 different pair.) Who knows what this problem might be?

My tv inputs are: HDMI 1 (cable), HDMI 2 (PS3), Ant-1 (recorder when hooked up) and Cable 3.

3.) I never use Cable 3, is there a way to get rid of it as a choice when I hit the "input" button, so it only goes, HDMI 1, HDMI 2?

You guy's are the pro's, what do you think is the problem?

I'm looking for helps ASAP as I am trying to record some stuff this Saturday. Thanks for all of your help in advance.

Just had to download version 2.42 of the PS3 system software. Wonder what's up with that. What was still unfixed in version 2.41?
