I got a stand that's only 18" high from IKEA ($80) formy 56", which I then combined with another 7" or so of 1" board. I cut the boards into squares, glued them together using liquid nail, and then sanded and painted (well, not yet, I was impatient. I'm re-arranging the HT room so I'll do it when I take them down to move it) them to match. TV is now the perfect height, and the final stand cost me under $100

I don't mean to take over his thread, but he mentioned he has to look down sometimes at his TV, i also do that sometimes.
when watching an HDTV is it best to view it from a height?(looking up) or even leveled? or doesn't really matter?
