And here's the good news: Warner's senior catalog team has confirmed to me directly that Blow and L.A. Confidential at least are actually being released on BD-50s with Dolby TrueHD audio. I'm awaiting a similar update on Speed Racer. It seems that incorrect information has been finding its way into the recent press releases for these titles (and the studio's press website) - a situation which we presume is going to be rectified
From the Digital Bits itself. We need to calm down a bit and wait for some official info, chaps.

There are probably people running T.V. speakers adding to the complaints, just to get in on the Riot!!! I mean, seriously.... some people spend 5 times more on their movie collection, than they did on their Audio equipment, but they complain about lack of Lossless???

I use audio as the guide to whether or not double-dip, just as much as I use video..... but audio, over-all, is the more important to me than video, but people don't realize there are some GREAT 5.1 tracks out there!

Huzzah. I feel the exact same way. I bolded the key word because that is very rampant around these forums as of late.

And the second bolding applies to me as well. I got into home theater for audio, not for video!

I got into home theater for video originally, but have I ever seen the error of my ways! Anyways, while I would prefer a lossless track, there are other factors that go into whether or not I purchase a movie (WFA anyone, or in my case fiance.) But I agree with this topic as a whole, Warner needs to step it up already.

I'm still hoping that the New Line titles will have DTS MA on their releases and in full 7.1 audio. New Line was just knocking quality releases out of the park, one after another.

The only WB blu rays I've seen are I am Legend and Harry Potter 5, and imo they both look and sound great, I am Legend is one of the best looking BluRays to come out to date, and sounds really good too, I only have a 5.1 sound system though.

Lady in the Water => 10 Mbps. Only 9.9 GB space left. That's why Warner couldn't feature lossless audio.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest => 14.25 Mbps. Totally agree that Warner has stepped up their BD quality.

Epic Fail!

Several silent films are much better than 99% of the Talkies (Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Murnau, Fritz Lang... anyone?). It's not about being "Talkie" or "silent" it's about being a GOOD movie!

Color better than B&W? Well that statement is at least "arguably". Some movies just looks better on B&W but since currently most people simply won't watch any B&W movie because they have this misconception about being "technically inferior", just few new releases are in B&W

But can you tell me if Casablanca, Raging Bull, Citizen Kane, Manhattan, La haine, Schindler's List, Sin City, The Last Picture Show, Psycho, Down by Law, Some Like it Hot, and tons more would be BETTER movies if shot in color????

Seems some people thinks EVERY movie should look and sound like a Video Game! Otherwise they must be labeled as "inferior products"
you should learn how to read. What does your rant have to do with what I posted?
Neo's point was that it is nice to have lossless audio but since we where willing to watch movies on DVD before and they where not lossless we should not demand it but be happy when we get it. My point was that tech has always improved and there is no reason not to demand it and move forward to it. I am not saying that there where no good movies in the 1920's or 30's or 40's or 50's or 60's or 70's or 80's or 90's but do you think studios and distribution should be limited to the tech that was available in the 20's or 30's or..... Let me ask you this, do you think 20 million miles to earth looks good with cool effects for the 50's? do you thin if a movie was made today with the same FX that people would say "Wow" or "Low budget kitsch". How many silent movies are made today? And do you think someone could make a silent movie (real one with people in them and card boards popping up with their words in text and not movies (shorts) with little to no dialog, so there is nothing to say) today and it would be a block buster?

I honestly don't know what to say. The rest of my post was saying that I 100% agree that lossless should be on all titles. God forbid I add some additional info to try to put things in perspective - that must mean I'm the enemy, right?
who called you the enemy? I had nothing to say for the rest, but you made one stupid point and that was what I brought up. You find it humorous that some people care about the quality of the stuff they buy and demand the very best that can be offered and some of us find it funny some guys don't care and think that no one else should and if they do care there must be something wrong with them.

I'm just thoroughly pissed that Warner's in their infinate wisdom didn't encode 'Sea Monsters' an IMAX release with lossless audio, it also doesn't appear that WB will do likewise for it's other IMAX blurays in the near future, I hope they can rectify that.

That is not even close to what I said - in fact, the entire rest of my post stands as evidence that that was not my intent. If I truly meant what you seem to think I did, I would have to suffer from some form of bipolar disorder.

It's not possible that One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was actually created while HD DVD was still around is it?

I think it's time for people to quit whining and just see what Warner actually has to offer in the next couple months. Until then, everyone is just complaining about releases that have happened and wont get fixed. In other words, complaining for no reason.

I think the whining is fine, but I don't see what disc size necessarily has to do with anything. I had MULTIPLE Universal and Paramount HD DVDs that looked great.

The problems with WB are mainly lack of "lossless" audio and problems from the master stage... and not really from the encoding stage.

I don't think you're supposed to say any HD DVD's looked great!

But the reason the whining is getting to me is because Warner has said they're listening to us, and pretty much came out and said all titles will have Dolby TrueHD. But these things take a little time to really get going. You can't just go "oh, this title is supposed to come out in a month, it will now have Dolby TrueHD on it." It's more like "well, we've created and manufactured these discs with Dolby Digital for HD DVD before the format war was over, lets put them out anyway."

Why, Why, Why, Why, Why WB? I own all of the Superman movies that are currently available on Blu and I've noticed that they fall short of some of my better blus. Warners is capable of better. I know they are. I have the Blade Runner collection! Please re-release these with higher bitrates! I'll buy!

LOL!!! Some of them did! I had over 30 (getting close to 40) before I sold them, and some of them looked great. Could some of them have benefitted from a higher bitrate encode, sure, but they still looked pretty darn good. Personally, I favored my Universal/Paramount titles over my WB titles even on HD DVD. I felt they often looked superior to WB's titles.

UPCOMING (ANNOUNCED) WB RELEASES

The Perfect Storm - Dolby TrueHD
The Lost Boys - Dolby TrueHD
Lost Boys: The Tribe - Dolby Digital 5.1?
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - Dolby Digital 5.1
Justice League Of America: Season One - ????????????
Pale Rider - Dolby Digital 5.1?
The Adventures Of Robin Hood - Mono
Under Siege 2: Dark Territory - Dolby Digital 5.1?
Outbreak - Dolby TrueHD
The Gauntlet - Dolby TrueHD
Every Which Way But Loose - Dolby Digital 5.1?
Eraser - Dolby TrueHD
Smallville: Season Seven - Dolby Digital 5.1
How The West Was Won - Dolby Digital 5.1?
Cool Hand Luke - Mono?
Speed Racer - Dolby Digital 5.1?
Risky Business - Dolby TrueHD?
Another Cinderella Story - Dolby Digital 5.1?
Pushing Daisies: Season One - Dolby Digital 5.1
Beetlejuice - Dolby TrueHD
L.A. Confidential - Dolby TrueHD
Blow - Dolby TrueHD
Rest Stop - Dolby TrueHD
Rest Stop: Don't Look Back - Dolby TrueHD
Otis - Dolby Digital 5.1?
A Christmas Story - Mono?
The Shawshank Redemption - Dolby Digital 5.1?

Note that two titles above have no audio listed, but rather "?" by them. These titles are titles I could not find tech specs for the audio on. Also note that on the above list, several titles with "lossy" have "?" by them. These titles are titles where we don't know whether they will be receiving a "lossless" track or not. Though some have had rear artwork released showing a "lossy" soundtrack... well, we all know what happened with "The Perfect Storm" and "Blow" do we not?

The point is, WB is getting better in regards to "lossless", but if you're favorite movie is released in the meantime while they are working their problems out, it doesn't mean as much. That being said, I can deal with it for now, but I don't have as much hope in them straightening out their PQ issues as quickly...

~Alan
