when i say new/better version, i don't mean a release with the exact same transfer but with just a couple of extras more like the films you mention.

I mean brand new restoration.

The Terminator, Robocop, and Rocky all had new 4K scans and they definitely blow away their previous releases!

I double dip for a new restorations if it's really an improvement, I don't really care about extras, I very rarely watch them, I would rather spend the time watching a different movie, but thats just me.

Not every restoration is a revelation.

The original Rocky and RoboCop releases were fine. The new restorations are better but I could live with the first releases.

Seriously??? Robocop is a massive upgrade. You don't have to count pixels or put it under a microscope. The new one is amazing and right up there with the biggest leaps from old blu-ray to new blu-ray.

Rocky still looks a bit soft even with the 4K scan, so perhaps I can buy the case for this one. But I never did have the older disc of Rocky to compare.

In either case, if there actually is a new restoration/remaster, that's where I officially DO stay away from old releases. I don't worry so much about releases that may never come, but if there is officially an improved release that's where I completely change my tune. I've done the "upgrade" thing dozens of times, always selling the old version on ebay first. Since I mostly only buy during time of extreme sales (FOXconnect flash sales, Criterion sales, WBshop sales,etc) - I generally end up ahead anyway even when doing upgrades.

If I see an older title I'm interested in I usually hop on here really quickly and do a search to see if there's a better edition out somewhere.

IIRC wasn't there two initially releases of RoboCop, one of which had a 1st pressing Fifth Element vibe?

Can't see the comparison on my phone, but I must have had the 1st release if there were indeed 3 different transers on blu. Whatever I had was crap vs the one that replaced it (which I know is the best one).

The new 4k scan is the very definition of a massive upgrade. Extremely worth getting, especially since it was like $8 on day one.
