That's funny. We have a couple of friends that can't seem to keep their hands off my remotes when they come over. I yelled at one when they screwed up my settings. The last time they came over we were having a barbecue so my wife and I hid all the remotes. They weren't able to mess with anything.

These were friends. Two to be exact. We have a lot of pool parties/barbecues in the summer and have lots of friends over. The first time it happened, these 2 were nowhere to be found. Turns out they don't like to be outside so they took it upon themselves to go in an enjoy my house while we were all outside.
That's when they messed with my remotes. I pulled a Barny Fife on them and nipped it in the bud. The next time we had a party I had my wife tell them that the party was outside and we didn't want anyone hanging out in the house. That's when she decided to hide the remotes. This time one stayed outside and the other one disappeared. I went inside and found him sitting on the recliner reading a magazine. He looked as though he was disappointed that he couldn't find the harmony in the wedge where I usually keep it. At least it kept him from messing with my stuff.
These individuals don't usually get invited over anymore.
Nip it, Nip it, Nip it.

The best one was when my sister came to visit the new house for the first time and she brought her 2 little ankle biters with her. My one nephew was just walking the other was still crawling and trying to pull up on stuff. So they are grabbing everything, going for the T.V. etc. I keep grabbing them before they can't get to it and they are throwing a fit. My sister says to me that we need to childproof the house while they are there. I looked at her and said hell no, they're your kids you need to keep an eye on them like I did with mine years before. She's the kind of parent that thinks you should let your kids do whatever they want. I told her she could do that at her house but not mine. needless to say it was a faily short visit.
Nip it, Nip it, Nip it.

Not familiar with the HD set top box, but is it possible he switched the sound output format on that and not on the receiver?

Same guess here. To the OP - Do you have your imput selecter set to auto or do you manually select? Is your DTV connected via HDMI? Walk us through your setup, you just may find it yourself

AMEN, I'm glad to finally see someone has the same views as me. I have two children ages now are 15 & 20. When they were growing up I never had a problem with them messing with the equipment rack. They were tought not to mess around with Dad's stuff or they would die a slow death I keep reading stories in this forum about kids messing things up or scratching screens. It amazes me that some parents feel that there is nothing they can do to stop it. (They're just kids, I read) Yes !! Thats why they have to be tought right from wrong, not let them do whatever they want. I never had to childproof anything, just teach.

Absolutely. The way I see it is I've worked hard to get where I am and take great care of my things. When my sister said that crap to me I was like hell no. Her kids, her responsibility. I personally don't care who it is, whether it's friends or relatives, RESPECT MY hOME AND MY THINGS. If I go to someones house I don't expect them to change what they're doing for me.
My sisters mentality is a lot of peoples mentality lately. Just let the little ones do whatever they want. If you don't teach them the difference between right an wrong they grow up as useless idiots and don't have any respect for anything. I taught my son the way my parents raised me. Respect other peoples things.
Also control your ankle biters.

Like my Brother in Law and his wife come over every week to play poker, and have been for two years. My wife and I like a cold house: 72-74 F during the day, 68F when we sleep. When we have company, we let it hover at 74, which is as high as we let it go. Everyone likes it cool but her brother and his wife. For years, they've been complaining about how cold it is in our house, yet she is always wearing some skin-tight tank-top and short little hooker shorts, and he is always wearing flip flops, shorts, and a sleeveless shirt. WHenever they complain about the temp, I tell them they should have worn warmer clothing. They want to make everyone else hot so they can be comfortable. One time we tried to be nice and let the temp rise to 77 and everyone else complained about how hot it was...

For the original poster, try adjusting the audio set up for Optical and make sure it is correct. When my son tried playing with the buttons on my onkyo 605, he had pushed the zone 2 buttons.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see you fixed it.

My mother in law used to do the same thing with our air conditioning. She would actually sneak over and turn it up. I told her to keep her hands off my thermostat and put some warmer clothes on.
