Since you're making a zombie movie, I'd say your a fan; therefore keep the movie. Yes, it's not as ground breaking as Dawn of the Dead, but Day still has it's moments.

There are plenty of Italian zombie movies that are good.

Lucio Fulci (ZOMBI 2)
City of the Living Dead

also, try Cemetery man if you haven't...(of course none of these are on blu )

I would read up on the production strategy of 28 Days Later. There is a ton of Troma stuff you could watch for cheap gore ideas.

Many will argue that Day of the Dead was crap compared to the rest of Romero's work but I really enjoyed this movie as equally as I enjoyed Dawn and Night of Living Dead.

The US release is slightly sharper, the arrow version is also slightly stretched. Very slightly. Very close, but the US one is the superior one.

I own both, I'm a sucker for the packaging.

I agree that the Anchor Bay version has a slight edge when it comes to the picture quality, however the Arrow version has much better extras and packaging.

This gif takes one of the caps-a-holic screens and an old dvd screenshot.

Compared to the DVD it's the Anchor Bay that's squished.
The Caps-a-holic blu/dvd comparrison supports this, too...

Edit: The Anchor Bay picture is slightly better, though. The opposite for the Dawn of the Dead releases imo.

I'm sorry I did a search for Day of the Dead and this is the newest thread I saw. Can someone tell me what has the better PQ, the original Blu release or the Scream Factory release? I have the original and it is a nice upgrade when compared to the DVD but is the Scream Factory alot better or no? I heard the Scream Factory release was DNRed and had different color timing and also was in a ratio where some sides were cut out when compared to the original release. Anyone have both and can say what is better? I love this movie a lot and enjoy the original release on Blu ray and want to know if the new one is worth upgrading.

Not everyone agrees, but I prefer the old Anchor Bay release.

It doesn't have the harsh reds or jacked up contrast, plus it does have an audio option without distorted high ends (most noticeable in the sibilants), lossless no less. Granted, it's not the original mono. Further granted, a handful of completely minor dialogue changes can be found here and there.

I don't see any additional detail in the Scream release. YMMV.

I have the AB release and it does have the original mono audio with the intact dialog I believe.

You're right, Cortiz; I just meant it's not lossless mono on the AB release.

Sorry for the bump but I just read on Wikipedia that this film is banned in Ontario with only a cut version passed.

Is that still true?? If so how come I can find a copy of it on Amazon.ca thats supposedly unrated (which is the Shout Factory "Collectors Edition.")

Finally blind bought the Scream Factory "Collector's Edition" of this on Blu-Ray earlier this evening.

Now is this a standalone film or does it follow any events from the previous Romero "Dead" films which I haven't seen in years and do not own.
