TFFK gets a release from WB today in france. I was wondering if anyone has any information on it. The previous release had hard subs, i know a lot of people are hoping that this is not going to have the same issue. The only other release so far is a Spanish BDR. If anyone has any information on this release i would be grateful. |

It's probably the exact same 1080i disc, minus the pointless tin and magnet (and dvd). |

Odd that it hasn't at least come out in Germany yet, where the film is more popular than anywhere else. |

If indeed this release does not have forced subs, I'll happily get rid of my tin version. |

I wouldn't be surprised that as soon as I buy this, Criterion or Arrow will announce a 4K master and a bells and whistles edition.

This disc is most likely the exact same than the one in the metal tin case. Other titles like Reflections in a goldent eye are also getting re released at the same date hence this guess.

I'm continually amazed by how many French BDs have PAL-speedup/are 25 fps. I avoided buying PETER'S FRIENDS because it's sped up, and also avoided FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS. I made the mistake of buying the French RUSSIA HOUSE, which is sped up. Luckily the German RUSSIA HOUSE is the correct speed, so I dumped the awful French disc, where everyone seemed to be on cocaine. And those just happen to be the ones I've encountered. I only own maybe five or six other French BDs, so that's a HUGE percentage that are sped up.

I nearly spent $40 to get it from Amazon.fr, and only was saved at the last minute by reading the old thread for this title: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=216504 If I helped one person change their mind and avoid getting the disc, I'm glad. And if anyone still wanted it after reading my review, at least they bought it knowing about the technical details. Everything I said in my review was corroborated my multiple people here, so I felt safe in writing it without wasting $40 on a physical copy of the disc. I sold my French BD of THE RUSSIA HOUSE because it had PAL-speedup, so my review of that is also now for a disc I don't have, it's really no different. It's unacceptable to me for a BD of a 24fps film to use a 25fps HD master. It's pure laziness, the master was intended for PAL SD use and the distributor couldn't be bothered to create another at the proper speed for the BD. Usually it's local French distributors that have done this, I'm honestly shocked that Warner Bros released a disc like this, which is why I wanted to warn people. I would have been extremely disappointed to receive this expensive Blu-Ray, only to play it and discover PAL-speedup, as happened when I ordered the French RUSSIA HOUSE BD. As I said, if I saved one person from buying this, it's worth it. And anyone who reads the review and is still okay with PAL-speedup can always buy and enjoy the disc, forewarned. In addition, the disc has forced French subtitles, which people need to be aware of. American discs almost never have forced subs, so buyers here wouldn't expect them, and this is an English-language film being discussed by a sizable number of Americans. |

I wrote a polite response here last night, but someone has decided to delete that post, along with my review.
All I said basically was that I give up. I recognize that neither of you are bothered by PAL-speedup, but that's likely because you're Europeans and have known it all your life. To Americans it can be extremely distracting, and as this is an English-language film made and released on BD by an American film studio, I'm sure there is interest in the disc from Americans. I have owned plenty of PAL-sped-up discs, including BDs. PAL-speedup looks the same on every disc, there's no need to see an individual disc to know it's distracting to many Americans. I was just trying to help people by giving them important technical information about the disc they could only otherwise find by plowing through 10+ pages of discussion in two separate threads. ![]() You haven't seen the disc. Simple as that. You cannot judge it. There's no getting around that truth. Imagine if reviewers based their reviews on what they THINK a disc is like, instead of actually watching the disc. Who on earth would take them seriously ? Sadly, It appears that you would. |

Multiple European friends of mine have said they don't notice PAL-speedup because they've seen movies that way all their lives. In fact they've been shocked to learn they were not watching movies at natural speed.
Americans tend to notice PAL-speedup because we've never encountered it. I'm being honest when I say that every single PAL-sped-up DVD and BD I've seen looks distracting. I'm not judging the image quality of the disc, I never suggested I was. I'm speaking solely about the disc using a 25fps master when the film was shot at 24fps. I find that unacceptable in the age of HD. I'm not sure what value you're suggesting there would be to watching this particular disc before speaking about this general technical issue, running a film 4% faster than was intended will look the same as on any other disc. More importantly, you also said the disc is unwatchable. That's a flat out lie. |
