I'm looking to rewire my home theater system and I want to do it with new speaker wires that have built in connectors -- spade as well as banana plugs. Any good recommendations for brands and places to buy? What is the best size for the speaker wires? I'd rather stay away from Monster Cable too.

Buy either 12 gauge or 14 gauge in-wall or regular speaker wires from Monoprice. They also have good banana plugs.

Use the table there as a guide for your speaker gauge number. Last edited by Big Daddy; 10-19-2008 at 04:32 AM. |

I got these off of Amazon and so far they are great. They are good quality and built very well. I believe they are 14 gauge and they also have a center channel wire sold separately.

Negative! I own it...its a small condo, but i only share one wall (corner lot). Anyways, last time i saw my neighbor, i touched bases with him and he was cool with my newly found hobby. He mentioned he already noticed the wall booming every once in a while, but he said he didn't mind. I told him to just let me know if it ever got too loud. He mentioned he used to have a loud system once upon a time, but no longer...Anyways, i just rented Master and Commander, so i shall watch it tomorrow

http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/speaker/index.htm Any reason why Monster is of the table other than a lot of people hate the company itself ??? I'm not saying to buy Monster or that their wire is wonderful but it is not expensive at all really compared to others. If you think it's not worth the price tag. PUBLIC NOTICE: I'm not trying to start a Monster bashing session or anything of that nature. Just trying to add a simple innocent thought. I know how the "M" word ignites forest fires around here so I'll tread lightly. |

Technical Pro sells high quality speaker wires with banana plugs attached to professionals (clubs, DJs, concerts, etc.) at reasonable prices. They only sell 25ft or 50ft.

I recommend Goertz cables, particularly the MI2 veracity from Alphacore. As the rate of diminishing returns goes, these cables give you the best bang for your buck.

If you can wait for them to be prepared, take a look at these coming in through eBay and from Taiwan:
http://tinyurl.com/584v8t Kevin will make whatever you want and will set the cables up as a biwire. His products are great and will outperform some very expensive cables (I have special versions of the cables and both I and Dave Schulte of the Upgrade Company have listened to them and other expensive cables). ![]() Rich |

Monster has some serious production issues. If you really pay attention to their connectors, many of them are the equivalent of plated plastic. Not wear ready or reliable in the long term.
True, most of their higher end cables are manufactured to better standards, but why pay that kind of cash for Monster when you could likely go with Audioquest, IXOS, or HGA and get a far superior product. |

I had a frustrating experience with speaker wire from Monoprice. The insulation was not at all uniform around the copper. It was much wider along one side making it very difficult to strip without cutting into the copper strands. Most everything else I've ordered from Monoprice has been great, but I won't buy their speaker wire again.

At $0.60/foot you can't go wrong. But if you think all speaker wire is the same you are very mistaken.
