No, this UNCUT version is the one where George Bailey grabs a baseball bat and goes all NEGAN on Mr.Potter at the end. It was too brutal for a holiday film, so they edited it out and kept it FAMILY FRIENDLY!

Who knows? No one will. This is the last known picture of the canister containing the ending.

And that's not even the weirdest part! The film was meant to be something more different:

Figures - I finally just got around to buying the bluray last year.

I'd buy it again though if it was a good set with an imrovement in image quality, not that the current version is bad. I get the feeling that this next release probably won't include the colorized version, which is too bad. Before I get mercilessly attacked for saying that, let me assure everyone that I vastly prefer the original black and white version. But I do appreciate the color version for two reasons:

- There are, sadly, especially with the younger generation, many that have a hard time with black-and-white films. They seem to have this feeling that black-and-white automatically means old and boring, and that means they miss out on some great content due to a silly misconception. While I don't suggest that everything black-and-white should get a conversion just to satisfy today's generation, it is nice to see a classic film like this offer the option to view it in color, simply if it means making it more approachable for first-time viewers.

- I do on occasion like to throw the color version on just for a change. They actually did a very nice conversion for this film. It lacks some of the contrast of the black-and-white version, but on it's own, it has a very vintage feel to the color that looks appropriate. Skin tones aren't perfect by any means, but it does give off a vintage feel, like watching an old Christmas card from that time period, only in motion. It's definitely a different experience watching it in color, and sometimes it's nice to have the option of mixing things up. Watching the color version doesn't make the original version disappear.

I know a lot of people hate on colorizations and conversions. There was a lot of hate about the Wizard of Oz 3D conversion before it was released. But most people that have seen it will tell you they did an amazing and tasteful job with the conversion. As long as the original version is always included with the conversions/colorizations, I have no problem with them. It's only when somebody pulls a George Lucas and takes the original away that people have a real problem.

When I sampled it in color years ago on the dvd I thought it didn't look very good or realistic but on the Bluray it looks like its been done again from scratch (has it?) because me and my daughter watched it last Xmas and I was surprised at how genuine it looked compared to how I remember the dvd looking

My understanding is that the Blu-ray got a new and improved colourisation redo.

I was gonna buy the current edition of It's A Wonderful Life in November of 2014 when the price dropped but I didn't. Before I was gonna buy it I read what Robert Harris said about the picture quality and I chose to hold off until the movie gets a re-release with a new transfer.

I've been waiting years for It's A Wonderful Life to get re-released on Blu-Ray and hopefully this new Platinum Anniversary Edition will feature a brand new transfer.

Is that a hair net that he's wearing? Looks like George Bailey was moonlighting as a lunch lady when he wasn't at the ol' building and loan.

What is seen cannot be unseen.

I'd be reaaaally surprised (albeit pleasantly so) if this actually offered a new transfer and/or extras. Seems like it gets re-issued every few years or so with a new cover and nothing else. Maybe we'll get lucky and there'll be a button on the front which bellows out, 'Maryyyyyyy!' when you press it.

Meanwhile, Paramount has announced yet another re-issue of Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life, this time a Platinum Anniversary Edition due on 10/11 (SRP $22.98). We have no word yet on additional features over previous releases, if any.
The lack of information on this is somewhat discouraging, but here's hoping we'll get some specs soon.

The cover is very family-friendly, which is the point of course. I'd like something a bit more classier looking, like this maybe:
