Well, recalibrating my receiver did absolutely nothing. Tried another 7.1 BD (Forbidden Kingdom) with no troubles at all. I'm thinking it's a bad disc and am going to send it back. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Try to rent it locally and see what happens.

By chance, is your speaker set-up 5.1? I've had a few strange issues with 7.1 discs not playing correctly in my 5.1 set-up. Most of the time the receiver handles this properly, but on the discs that screw it up (The Orphanage is one) I can fix it by manually setting the receiver to 5.1.

Have never had this problem with a Disney BD that I remember though. New Line had a run of them with this problem.

No, it's a 7.1 setup. This is the first time I've experienced this issue with a 7.1 DTS master audio soundtrack. Not that I have a bunch of them but I do have several and no troubles with them. I could handle the "skips" that occur if only the center channel level was good enough to hear the dialog above everything else. If I increase the volume so you can actually hear the dialog it just about blows out the windows of my house.

I watched it on a PS3 with the 820 last night.
I did note that I had it around the same volume level as when I watched Dark Knight last week and the dialogue did seem a little quieter.

That is unusual with a DTS track, where normally they're played at a lower volume than something in Dolby TrueHD which tends to need a bit of turning up.

I'm not sure about this one. It wasn't so quiet that I couldn't hear the dialogue perfectly fine; but thinking about it - maybe it wasn't as wonderfully clear as it should be for a lossless track.

I agree that if I had turned it up any more then the rest of the track would have sounded too loud.

Default Had same issue, but is cleared up now

Samsung BR + Marantz Decoder/Amp

I had the same issue with this sound track... perhaps even worse. In my case, the audio would actually cut in and out (about 3 seconds of sound, about 5 seconds of silence), and when the audio was there, it contained a significant quantity of hissy/popping sounds.

I'd upgraded to latest firmware, but had the same problem.

Finally I threw an old disk into the player (Silverado), and it suddenly had the same sound issues! I decided to power down my entire stack, doing a hard reboot.

Interestingly, this cured the problem. Even the Prince Caspian disk sounds great now. I'm a little puzzled as to why, though, unless the upgrade to the firmware caused some software problem between the player and the amp/decoder (connected via HDMI) which wasn't cleared until the decoder/amp was also rebooted... but that seems extreme.

Just a casual observation, but between the two threads I've noticed most of you having this issue have Pioneer receivers. Maybe there's an issue here with the current firmware?
