I have the 46" version and I left the stock settings except I turned the bass all the way up(But you have to adjust settings for each input, it does not do them automatically) and I also turned "on" the light sensor which eliminates the clouding issues that a lot of people talk about. DVD's on mine look crystal clear, obviously not as good as a high def source, but good. I use DVD's thru the XBOX360 Elite w/ HD DVD player and use an HDMI cable to the tv and a fiber optic to the receiver. This is only temp until I get paid this Friday and buy the Panasonic DMP-10AK blu-ray player which I would HIGHLY recommend! The tv that you have now has the Bravia PRO engine which automatically upconverts to 1080P, and you shouldn't have a problem with DVD's. But if you don't have the money for a BD player ($499 with movies) then grab the next best thing with HDMI connections.

Peace

Change the settings on your DVD player, not the TV. If you were using it on an old fashioned tube TV, you need to re-configure for an HD 16x9 set

Make sure you're using at least component cables (Red/blue/green, not the single yellow or S-video). If you have HDMI on the DVD player, even better.

Set your screen options to progressive scan and to output to 16x9, not 4x3. If it's set to 4x3 and you're zooming you are losing a lot of resolution.

Then lastly, make sure you're using the FULL output setting on your TV and not one of the zoom modes.

It won't look as good as Blu Ray but it certainly should look better than on your old set.
