Default Got a new 5.1 Setup, Your opinions...

Ok, so I got a new 5.1 Setup today, I'm not going to set it up until a couple of days though. I was wondering if anyone has it or uses it? I'm on a short budget, and this is just for a bedroom. How will it preform? Is it shitty?

Maybe if you told more about the 5.1 system. There are thousands of different kinds of 5.1 systems from the type of receiver to the type of speakers.

Are you talking about a HTiB or something you put together?

Yes Metal, we need to know what you bought, otherwise there isn't much we can do to answer your question.

And now that you have an HT audio setup, be sure to take our poll here:

Is that mean your saying it's shit? I just want some decent sound... It's my first sound setup. I can't take it back, I got it as a gift.

If you got it as a gift I'm sure it will be GREAT for what you payed for it. In all serious though, it's a basic HTIB. It will be better then nothing. I would not buy it, but there is a HUGE market for system's like these. I'm sure you will eventually want to upgrade it...

btw, you will not find many people on this forum that like or recomend HTIB.

At least it accepts LPCM over HDMI, so your 550 can decode HD audio and send it as LPCM to you HTiB. There are better systems out there, but as a gift for someone who has never had a 5.1 setup, you should be happy with it.

Truthfully i had the same setup for my first lossless setup and i was very impressed by the sound it put out using the PS3. Very good deal if you only want to spend less then 400$ but for a gift well... I would be very happy with it.I think you will love it!I would got to monoprice and get a set of speaker stands for $13.50 a pair!!!

Enjoy it and have fun watching movies my friend. There are to many systems out there to make comments on. If you are happy with it, then I'm happy with it.

It won't say Dolby TrueHD on the receiver, It will say PCM instead. depending on your player, if it decodes internally, like the PS3 then on the player it should tell you if it is Dolby TrueHD.

I have a PS3 so when playing a movie I can hit the select button the the BD remote and it shows what is playing, IE Dolby TrueHD DTS-HD MA the bitrates and what not

Edit: For some BDs you need to select the audio setting first, for most warner BDs the Dolby Digital is the default. It applies to the Dark Knight as well, when the movie starts, since Warner does not include a main menu, you need to bring up the pop-up menu and select the HD audio from there.
