Default Got a new 5.1 Setup, Your opinions...

Ok, so I got a new 5.1 Setup today, I'm not going to set it up until a couple of days though. I was wondering if anyone has it or uses it? I'm on a short budget, and this is just for a bedroom. How will it preform? Is it shitty?

Maybe if you told more about the 5.1 system. There are thousands of different kinds of 5.1 systems from the type of receiver to the type of speakers.

Are you talking about a HTiB or something you put together?

Yes Metal, we need to know what you bought, otherwise there isn't much we can do to answer your question.

And now that you have an HT audio setup, be sure to take our poll here:

Is that mean your saying it's shit? I just want some decent sound... It's my first sound setup. I can't take it back, I got it as a gift.

If you got it as a gift I'm sure it will be GREAT for what you payed for it. In all serious though, it's a basic HTIB. It will be better then nothing. I would not buy it, but there is a HUGE market for system's like these. I'm sure you will eventually want to upgrade it...

btw, you will not find many people on this forum that like or recomend HTIB.

At least it accepts LPCM over HDMI, so your 550 can decode HD audio and send it as LPCM to you HTiB. There are better systems out there, but as a gift for someone who has never had a 5.1 setup, you should be happy with it.

i think this will be a decent starting point into the world of home theater. You will be getting loss less audio from it, which a lot of people still do not have! I say give it a whirl, you can always upgrade later on down the line, for now...enjoy it!

So, I will be getting loseless uncompressed audio when watching Blu-Rays? So, I'm getting full capability out of Blu's? Like it will support True Dolby HD.. Sorry, I'm a noob to sound, but not a noob with Sets. I'm a Videophile. My parents have an old 5.1 set, that was VERY expensive back in the day.($700 per speaker)

It will sound just fine, your going to love it. People on this site do not recommend htib but everyone has to start off from somewhere. Yeah its not the best system on the market right now but for a bedroom and upgrading from you tv speakers it will sound awesome to you.

I don't have a surround system for my bedroom. So, for me it would be great.

Alright, thanks. I'm just looking something that I can enjoy while watching Blu's and playing my Xbox 360, and watching some TV. Thanks!

I have the HT-SF2000, the SS2300 is just a newer model, You can get DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD by having it connected via HDMI, for the money, the sony HTiB sounds awesome.

Only thing DO NOT use the supplied mic to auto set it up. It will make it sound like a piece of crap. You need to use custom settings for it, I found them around the avs forums when I got my SF2000 last year, will try to find it for you

Just make sure to set your BD player to decode and send LPCM through HDMI. Do not set it to bitstream, or you will not get HD audio.
