It's on my long list of shows to watch on Netflix (the first season of course). I just got done with the first season of Wynonna Earp, so given the comparisons to that, it will probably be a bit before I watch Van Helsing. Also, by then, it won't be as long of a wait for Season 2 to appear on there.

The characters are alot more likeable on Earp. Van Helsing has alot of problems with unlikeable or hard to like characters.

I have watched it all and probably will keep watching but never really had much to say about it. It never has moments that inspire me to react and writing can be frustrating on the best episodes.

I think there is plenty to like about the show and I especially like when they give us the backstories for many of the characters. I did not like Julius for obvious reasons in season one but grew to like him with his backstory and obvious events from season 2. I'm not sure who is my favorite character on the show is which for me is an issue. I usually have one by now. But I am enjoying the show.

It's a good show. Just got renewed for season 3. You should check out Wynona Earp as well.

Scarlett is amazing, though I think it's too bad that they opted for the

[Show spoiler]familial connection between she and Vanessa as I'd been hoping for a beautiful lady love connection when she was still a Harker but I'll settle for having two bad ass lady assassins that are just sisters.

Season finale was kind of meh, but Season 3 looks to be pretty promising.

According to Wikipedia she was pregnant while they were filming the second season.

That's what I was guessing. Just weird to not have the title character of a show be in the season finale.

Renewed for Season 4:

Quote:
'Van Helsing' Renewed for Season 4 on Syfy With New Showrunner

The NBCUniversal-owned cable network has picked up a fourth season of the Canadian import, only without showrunner Neil LaBute. Instead, Jonathan Walker (Continuum, Wu Assassins) will take over as showrunner for the 13 new episodes that will air in 2019.

LaBute will still be involved with season four and will write three scripts for the series while juggling his time as showrunner on Netflix's The I-Land, starring Kate Bosworth, Alex Pettyfer and Natalie Martinez. That series also hails from Van Helsing producers Nomadic Pictures.

News of Van Helsing's renewal comes as the genre drama based on the movie of the same name will wrap its third season Dec. 28.

Never a ratings breakout (the drama is averaging 400,000 viewers through its first 10 episodes in season three), Van Helsing represents a low-cost acquisition for Syfy. The cable network has found success in that space with such series as Wynonna Earp and Z Nation, as those counterbalance expensive swings like originals Happy and Nightflyers.

Walker exec produces the series, starring Kelly Overton, Missy Peregrym and Jonathan Scarfe, alongside Nomadic's Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev, Industry Works' Evan Tyler, Echo Lake Entertainment's Dave Brown and Zadoc Angell and Dynamic TV's Daniel March. Dynamic TV handles worldwide distribution for the series, excluding first-run in the U.S. and Canada. The series airs globally on Netflix.

"Having been in the writing room on Van Helsing since season one I'm excited to take the reins as showrunner from Neil LaBute," Walker said. "Season four will delve deeper into the iconic lore of the vampires and their ultimate goals for this world. New villains will rise along with unexpected heroes joining the fight. We have a fantastic build planned for this season and I'm thrilled to share it with our dedicated fans."

I just binge watched 3 seasons.

Season 1 was a slow burner and not a lot happens imo but Season 2 really picks up the pace and moving into Season 3 felt seamless.

I think there was a lot of creative choices made in season 3 i wasn't happy with but i'm almost wondering how many of those narrative choices were based on actors wishing to leave their roles rather than just what the show runners wanted to do.

I have a little bit of a disdain for the Vanessa character as i didn't fully connect with the choices made by the character during the show. Some were understandable whilst some were baffling and ham fisted to maybe convey certain things.

I felt like generally everybody was well rounded and did great in their roles convincingly to be who they played. Especially the role of Sam. Amazing performance. Look forwards to seeing what they do in season 4 but regarding season 3, hate
[Show spoiler]that Axel basically goes back to his hometown and finds his old employer/"friend" Lorne then discovers he has dementia and then they 180 the loving remembrance to reveal "Carter" is actually Polly and have Lorne be the gun toting ******** who shoots her and kills her after everything he already did to her. It was gut wrenching to see them do that to Axel. Even reuniting him with Scarlett doesn't change that. Talking of which, WTF!! They killed his badass ninja babe! Now maybe she wanted to pursue other roles and that's why they wrote it that way but if not, what arse nozzles. They should have subverted what Jacob said to them about how he was seduced to the dark and Abraham kept to the light than make a BS excuse to kill Scarlett to keep Vanessa in the "Light". Also talking of which, the "Oracle" needs stabbing through the eyes multiple times. The world has absolutely zilch explanation or consistency for narrative choices as to how she can freeze people, how that "guardian" could do what he did. It's like there's no resson why they didn't take over the world so much sooner if theh could do all this crap. To top if off, there's also been no real explanation as to how "Scar Head" really became a day walker and knew he could turn the others into them and how they can regenerate so fast.
.

So i guess my biggest issue is how they play fast and loose with the series lore to create certain elements to try and tell the story in a way that sometimes doesn't work imo.
