Looks kind of awful TBH. I don't have the DVD so I'll end up getting it when it's discounted anyway, if no one else comes up with a different source. The mirror pic is a particularly good illustration of the shortcomings.

It looks a lot better than the DVD to me.

Just finished this. Great film as always. Enjoyed it very much. As far as the transfer is concerned, it has its limitations. I think, based on the source elements, 88 Films has done as well with this as they possibly could.

Some of the colour breathing/fluctuation that they mention in their restoration feature still exists, although god knows what it looked like in the original source elements. It's almost like a firelight glow scanning across the picture. It's not really bad or anything but it's there. Muted, but noticeable. Well, at least to me.

A few instances of flicker. Couple of scratches/green lines etc. Nothing major. Sometimes the transfer looks good and other times a little washed out/faded. Whites are very white lol. But blacks are only very occasionally deep and solid, which is a shame. Grain is a bit messy sometimes. Not the finely resolved type you get from a 4k scan of a negative. But, I suppose that's to be expected from a 2k scan of an old print.

I would say it reminded me of watching the Black Christmas transfer in terms of overall quality (although it has its moments of being slightly better strangely enough). It's definitely comparable to that.

Considering what the original elements looked like (based on the restoration feature) 88 have done a bang up job with this. As good as it's likely to get and whilst it sounds like I'm picking out the negatives, it does have its moments of being surprisingly good. I'm not sorry I bought it, that's for sure.
