Watched MI3 last night. Moved up to second-best for me. 1 > 3 > GP > RN > 2

Right? I watched it again a few months back and was kinda floored by how awesome it was. Always liked it, this time I fookin' LOVED it.

Swap RN for GP and that's my order too

Yeah it's been a while for me, too. Some great sequences and I think Hoffman might be the best villain of the bunch. Rogue Nation is... I dunno. I just don't get the hype. The more I watch it the less I like it. Too much of a mixed bag, but at least what's good is really good.

Always though PSH was the best villain, even before my recent rewatch.

Was always partial to Voight, but I think that was my bias for the first one coming through

I watched RN in the cinema and just remember being kinda bored. Bored, during a Mission Impossible movie. Never happened to me before. Maybe i'm just getting old It's not a terrible movie, it has its moments but meh. The bad guy from RN is no Philip Seymour Hoffmaestro that's for sure.

No-one loves the first one more than I do, but there's something about PSH in 3.

Loved it in the cinema, loved it even more on Blu-ray. Haven't watched it in a while tho...

Yeah, it always felt like a movie trying to spin too many plates. There's the faux-Skyfall subplot with Baldwin doing his whole Mallory-becoming-M thing, the movie kinda never decides if it wants to be a spy-action movie or an action-comedy. The whole opera thing is great until it goes all Buster Keaton and I can't help wishing I was watching the opera sequence in Quantum of Solace. The villain's a bit shite and loses credibility immediately by not killing Ethan in the record shop. And I know this is probably a plus for many, but I prefer when the movies focus more on Ethan, and this one almost feels like he's a supporting character in his own movie. Ilsa Faust is fine but she's too opaque to care about for an entire movie. Individual things about it work great on their own (love that opening, love that motorcycle chase, love the foot chase around London, and I REALLY love the idea of getting rid of Benji...), but it never really coalesces for me. Oh well, still better than a lot of big-budget stuff we get these days.

EDIT: also, can't stand that underwater sequence. Overly CG'd, and it turns into this comedy of errors where everything goes wrong and somehow works out perfectly, only for Ilsa to steal the list anyway. In which case she could've just been the one going into the fancy vault with the gait analysis and let Benji... what, run the iPad? You can feel Cruise sitting in a production meeting like "I can hold my breath for a long time, can we maybe do something with that?"

It's been a long while since i've seen the first Mission Impossible (only own 3, GP & RN on blu-ray) so of all the UHDs that for me is The Big Daddy.

I'm pretty fookin' excited to see it again. Diabolical dangling, camera spectacles, helicopter vs tunnel, "You've never seen me very upset", the ol' Jean Reno disc switcheroo*, Red Light, Green Light - F*** Yeah!

I haven't seen 2 in years either yet somehow its horrors are still fresh in my mind. It's the floating turd of the MI franchise. Only an immediate Hard Target/Face Off double bill can cleanse the palette.

That scene where Tomcat is spinning around in the car and locks eyes with Thandie always makes me shit myself laughing.

Yeah but that bit with them circling each other in the middle of that party, with the music and everything, is all sorts of awesome.

I always found it odd the movie got some kind of weird "bad Mission movie" rep over time like 2 did. I thought 3 was awesome when it came out and still loved it my last watch.

Then again I also really enjoy 2 as a dumb fun movie with great aussie accents, so what do I know.
