I like having something to hold in my hands because I paid for it, so I like having a disc, packaging, etc. And, I almost always get a digital copy anyway with a disc purchase so its a bonus. Like others stated, you can show off your collection and always have a disc ready to play when you want, having everything you need. I'm the guy who will be holding onto discs for dear life as long as possible while enjoying them as long as possible, and its going to be quite a while yet!

I'm pretty sure I know who the guy on the right that is smirking (Red Forman), but it still looks like one of the Wachowski Brothers (Andy, I think) before they went crazy with their looks.

Commercial theaters, most of which can't come close to the image and sound quality in my modest front projection set-up (a first time effort at that!), get a physical storage device with each movie, as far as I know. Our next "player" should be a special purpose computer with the software to play a consumer version of a DCP along with the best scaling software, etc. In this future state, we'll no longer buy an optical disc, but rather another physical device such as a stick or cartridge along with next generation packaging which we can presumably collect.

I meant went crazy, as in odd. Out there. No, I wouldn't like to rephrase that. I meant what I said. Their look now vs. back in 2001 is most definitely crazy. It's fine if they want to go for that look. More power to them. I still have a right to think it's crazy. There's nothing wrong what that or with what I said. |

Whatever comes along 10 years from now to replace UHD absolutely must not be compromised relative to what theaters get. Frankly, we should begin petitioning studios to award licenses by film. We've already paid enough for thousands of movies. I'm fine paying a dollar or two each in ten years to replace hundreds of UHDs, but the current game must stop. The notion of "future proof" has been a sad joke for several years now, but it's about time for that promise to be fulfilled. |

discs are printed for pennies. unless there's some quantum leap in engineering for solid state storage, expect discs to be around for media for a looooonnnng time. if disc size tops out i'd then expect more massive leaps in compression efficiency before selling movies on a terabyte cartridge/sd card. too much profit margin to be made on selling a movie that costs a couple cents to manufacturer and sell for $20-30. |

"The first method is to send a hard disk drive to the theatre with the movie and all of the trailers that the studio wants to have shown before the movie. Each theatre gets one copy of the movie and will copy it from the hard drive to the servers in each auditorium where the movie will be shown. The other distribution method that is growing in popularity is to download the movie from a communications satellite or to get it through a high speed internet connection." iTunes updated their artwork for the other films. I guess these will be the UHD covers? I don't recall Morpheus using the Sword in Martrix Revolutions. It was only Reloaded, right??

The Reloaded art is terrible; Neo looks like he has shrunk! You are right about Morpheus; the sword was only in Reloaded. Someone got paid to produce this rubbish artwork. 'Rolls eyes'
