I rented the iTunes HD version last night. It's a solid upgrade from the DVD with no serious issues (that I could see). I suspect that Shout will use exactly the same transfer that Sony has already made available to iTunes and other streaming sites.

Thrilled about this news, just watched by DVD again a month or so ago. This is one of my earliest movie memories, watching it on television on vacation. I was very young and didn't get most of the jokes, but it stuck with me, until I was able to get it on VHS much later. I've seen it dozens of times. Such a terrific cast, such a terrifically dumb script full of great terrible jokes, I just adore it. Also very happy they went with the original artwork for the cover, as the DVD cover art was god awful (Giant Peter Falk with tiny heads floating around him against a red background.)

Back to the Bluray, I'm holding off until I find out about the special features. While I'm sure they'll carry over the featurette and trailer, their City Slickers disc doesn't fill me with confidence that they'll go any further and at least include the deleted scenes from the TV broadcast (Sellers' other brief role as a taxi driver, Holmes and Watson turning up late at the end of the movie, etc) - and this is exactly the kind of title that Indicator might just go to town on in the UK.
Either way, I'm hoping for an it's-about-time announcement for The Cheap Detective to follow. Last edited by Aclea; 09-05-2018 at 09:34 PM. |

I have a hunch Twilight Time might do that eventually, if only because of the Jerry Fielding score (Nick Redman produced CDs of many of his scores and met TT's Brian Jamieson through the CD for The Wild Bunch laser disc boxed set). They put out Harry and Walter Go to New York and The Fortune, and they were both just as unpopular in their day.

I'm thinking Peter Sellers was best in b/w:
The Naked Truth (1957) I'm All Right Jack (1959) Two Way Stretch (1960) Only Two Can Play (1962) Lolita (1962) The Wrong Arm Of The Law (1963) Dr. Strangelove (1964). |
